Thread: "Abandon ship" or "Surrender"? | Forums

Are there such commands in SH3?

Since most of u-boat crews didn't survived till the end of war, I try to do the trick. I know that odds are againts me, but as far as summer 1941 I've managed it quite well. Playing with 72% realism (with auto map updates and automatic TDC calculations).

Make no mistakes: I play agressively, I attack even small boats like Flower Corvettes. I guess I'm quite lucky, because my boat was only once damaged, after... collision with a norwegian merchant off Bergen. Quite funny story, afterall - remember to light up your xenons in dark, stormy and foggy night

But what happens if my boat be so badly damaged, that I cannot return to base? Do I have to make "all hands lost" or can I rescue at least some my man by surface and abandon ship? F...ck the fuhere, we all have families

I'm rather familiar with SH3 interface, but I didn't found that command yet. Any ideas?

Maybe someone had been in such critical situation?

If you manage to escape you must be able to make it home, if you dont manage to escape wahtevers attacking you, due to damage, well, then i guess you will be destroyed.

Hmm...Death or abandon ship....Yeah...I think I'd take the option where if I had to abandon the boat and be taken prisoner....I'd spend the rest of my WWII days in some remote POW camp in Western Nebraska, or Texas...On a work crew, tilling up some local farmers beat field. lol

What if I got heavili depth charged and I decide to surface and wave with white flag? I sound reasanable to me. And you?

Another situation. Going deep with dead engines (beyound repair). The hunter give up their track and leave the scene. Blow balast and my boat is siting duck on the water. Do I have to wait till another DD find and finish me or can I scuttle the ship and try luck with dinghys or whatever was aboard u-boat.

AFAIR in SH1 you could abandon ship.

I completely agree. In all the U-boat books I have read, they tell constantly about being "forced to the surface because of damage." When we blow ballast because of flooding, there should be an option to abandon ship. Your career would be at an end, either you were fired upon, drowned or were taken prisoner. The computer should also tell you how many of your crew survived. This would be an easy option to make in the game and would make it more interesting.

Another method of surrender besides waving the white flag was to turn the deck gun towards the conning tower. Similar to a plane lowering it's gear to surrender. And visually much easier to spot than a flag.

Being able to surrender would have been a great option in game. Why it was never in a patch is beyond me. I guess no one really thought it that important to request it. So, I don't think we'll see that anytime soon and we'll have to RTB or go down with our boat.

In the game files there is a ChE_K_Abandon_ship sound file perhaps for moders or for perhaps new patches if needed.

in that case you could probably just esc out and return to base.
