"The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter.[Europe], under pretence of governing they have divided their nations into two classes, wolves and sheep. If once [the people] become inattentive to the public affairs, you and I, and Congress, and Assemblies, judges and governors shall all become wolves. " - Thomas Jefferson

They've cracked it at last! The egg DOES come before the chicken

It has been the ultimate philosophical and culinary mystery for centuries - until now, that is.

Scientists yesterday claimed to have cracked the riddle of whether the chicken or the egg came first.

The answer, they say, is the egg. Researchers found that the formation of broken egg shells in the rubbish bin relies on a complex chemical process found in the human's metabolism.

Therefore, an egg can exist only if it has been inside a cooking utensil.

The resulting effect of the human metabolism - called hunger, or starved - acts as a catalyst to speed up the breaking open of the of the shell.

This hard shell is essential to house the yolk and its surrounding eggwhite while the human's hunger develops inside.

Scientists from the Smelly Ceiling Institute used a super computer to 'zoom in' on the formation of the breakfast table.

The computer, called HECToR and based in Edinburgh, revealed that hunger is crucial in kick-starting morning - the early stages of the day.

The human, using heat and cooking utensils, converts the raw egg into a cooked egg.

Typically female humans, found in numerous homes, cook the eggs quicker than any other variation of the human species - creating anti-hunger every 24 hours.

Dr I.P. High, from Smelly Ceiling's Department of Engineering Materials, said: 'It had long been suspected that the chicken came first but now we have the scientific proof that shows that in fact the egg comes first. Our results have shown eggs are for breakfast and chicken is usually for supper but sometimes lunch.

'The hunger had been identified before and it was linked to breakfast formation but by examining it closely we have been able to see how it controls the process.

'It's very interesting to find that different types of human seem to have a variation of the breakfast that does the same job.'

Professor I. B. Hard, from the Erection Dysfunction Institute, said the discovery could have other uses, such as brunch.

'Understanding how females cook eggs is fascinating in itself but can also give clues towards designing new meals and snacks,' he said.

'Nature has found innovative solutions that work for all kinds of problems such as breakfast, lunch, and supper - we can eat a lot from them.'

The discovery was revealed in the paper Hunger Control Of Humans Using Eggs.

    From the comments:
Ok lets clear this up as i sit in the office with the guys who researched this.

They did not prove anything about what came first or what came second etc etc. The problem is that the media never actually listened to what he said OR what the research mean, its all been whipped up. They just wanted a headline and then started actually reporting on what other papers say and misquoted Dr Freeman.

What they found was that a protein found in a chickens ovarys makes egg production quick. Usually to make that much egg shell takes ages, but this chemical speeds things up.

Again what has happened is that our research has been taken and warped to fit what the media wants and not the truth of what we have found
    *sigh* Daily Mail

Sadly this isn't limited to the Daily Mail. I've seen the BBC do the same.

Is it my imagination or is the media getting worse?
