I'll make this short...
I believe there's lots of people who share this opinion, so I'm posting it.
From Dust is a industry shaking title. Terrific inventive gameplay (kid-friendly even) at a steal of a price.
HOWEVER
It is so severely marred by all this justified negativity toward UbISOFT (bugs, drm, lack of options/configuration, cutesy Xbox politics, frames limit, etc) that it's TRULY A SHAME.
These guys have a terrific formula for a game, a terrific price point, and screw it all up with the worst public relations and general screw-youness in the industry.
People love From Dust, believe it.
People hate UBISOFT. Believe it... and make a change for the better.

It's really a sad state of affairs that such an amazing game was so fouled up by shoddy porting and lack of care.
I already have 6 hours in game, even though I'm one of the staunchest adversaries of cheap ports. That's how fun this thing is.
Really too bad the game will not sell as well as it could on PC due to Ubisoft's ineptness.

Could not agree more with the OP.. This game is a gem of a concept with refreshing dynamic gameplay and great physics. I've put in 4 hours so far, aforementioned annoyances notwithstanding.
It's a shame the PC release has been handled so poorly by Ubisoft. I really hope they rectify most if not all these issues with a decent patch.

Unfortunately it seems to be the norm for a lot of major companies. Ubisoft just seems to be doing exceptionally well in ****ing people off with this one.
Like me, I have a bug that does not crash From Dust. Instead what happens is that Ubisoft Game Launcher closes From Dust immediately after start up and messages me, "There was a problem starting your game. Make sure you have no other games running that use the Ubisoft Game Launcher. If the problem persists, try reinstall the game."
I've gotten three techies so far tell me that since the game is not supported for laptop video cards they can't help me do anything.
How is this a video related problem? I wouldn't be surprised if Ubi put that no laptop notice on their minimum requirements page just cut down on the amount of work the techies have to plow through to find anything the terrible port job left behind that they can actually fix.
Instead they're being forced to hide behind this no laptop rule and I'm not going to be able to play this game I thought was going to be super interesting. Also I'm demanding my money back.

This game is so intriguing & pleasant to play it covers a wide spectrum of players & esp. the ages of players which makes this, one brilliant game for the value...IF, you can get this game working on your PC.
As I followed the beginning of posts (esp. the PC players starting on the 17th because, I am one) I realized that efforts in producing a quality game solely presented for the PC has been compromised. This was not an oversight, or a mistake, but rather an intended practice.
No different than the U.S. car companies, spending millions of $$$ in advertisement in the effort of boasting crap vehicles (those of you remembering the 70s knows what I mean).
Those who do not understand the depth of such practice of fitting a square peg in a octagon hole for the sake of making a buck...cannot fully comprehend such magnitude of betrayal to the gamer, who knows what they did & what they are still trying to get away with.
Producing this game, that has been altered in order to function enough on a PC, has now infuriated the gamers in the worst way imaginable. The outcry & the outrage you are witnessing, is the result of such misguided actions of product & policy.
Those who will consume a piece of crap served in between two slices of bread (eye-candy trailers in order to sell before its release) will outweigh those insignificant complaints.
Therefore, sell it as it is.
This is not good for Ubi...no matter how much they have sold & boast about the sales...because, in the end...the ripple effect will reach farther than the money that they taken.

You guys are lucky that you can play it. Every time I start it the game says "Can't create sound device" and shuts down.
-
I have the same problem AAronsolon... i contacted ubisoft directly and asked for help... of course no answer... to think i actually payed for the game just to be screwed over by the publisher somewhat does not seem fair.
If anybody here has a clue on how to fix the "Can't create sound device" error i would really be greatful!I really was looking forward to this game...

Want to know the brilliance of it all?
It's already cracked and playable without any DRM trouble on public torrent trackers.
GG, ubisoft.
Once again failing at common sense.
