Haven't heard of such. I don't think you can trust the source you got that from. You're at 100% and paintings are needed for that (aren't they?), so it is very unlikely.
It's true. I have them. There's 3. Self portrait, young man with an apple and christ blessing. If you're 100% sync then you probably have them and just don't realize it. They can be viewed at the Tiber island hideout.
Yeah you buy each one in the three main districts after sequence 8.
Central District - Self Portrait
Campaign District - Young Man
Antico - Apple
