Thread: Whats the point of transfers?? | Forums

I'm with the 1st flottilla, in mid-41. I can transfer to either 2nd or 7th flotilla.. so whats the difference? when i tried to go to 7th, all i got is a new port that was impossible (not literally) to maneuver in..

Some flotillas get different and better subs then other flotillas. Some of the ports for the other flotillas are located closer to more populated hunting grounds also.

Kiel? You said mid-41, so the 7th should be at St. Nazaire, which is the easiest port in the world to enter/exit. You sail due south, there's nothing in the way, nothing you can hit, nothing that can go wrong unless you turn.

2nd, on the other hand, is at Lorient. I've never been there, but I believe all the others who've said that it is the WORST port in the world.

As to why transfer out of 1st Flotilla? Well, if you want any boat other than a II or a VII, you'll need to, as that's all 1st Flotilla gets. Later in the war the allied air may make you long for a transfer as well. I've only been attacked by planes once crossing the Bay of Biscay (through May of 44), and that was right when I was pulling into the harbor at St. Nazaire. Brest is much closer to the allied airfields in southern England, so you can expect to be attacked a lot after late 42.

    That's because it's still 1942.

You will hate planes in late 1943 when they do precision bombing in groups of 12 and seem to find you in anything but **** weather.

You will love heavy storms and fog

Heh, as it turns out, right after the snorkel became available (mid 1943 or so) I started my second mission from the 7th. My first contact with airplanes....was close enough to home base that I could still SEE it.

In fact, as it turns out the Hipper Heavy Cruiser helped me fend them off. I have 3 quad flak cannons, and they're getting a heck of a work out.

As it turns out...storms just came in, so I should be safe on the surface for a bit.
