Thread: Hooked on Myst style games | Forums

  1. #1
I was wondering what other Myst style games are out their. I have always like the Myst series for a number of resonse, the solotude with-in the game, very little if any violence (if I wanted that I can always turn on the news), going from on world to the next (like harnessing the the Twilight Zone for travel, the puzzles and the machanics of them, it seems so real if I allow my self to become compleatly in to them. its a shame its gonna end with Myst 5. I feel with enough of the right kind of imagination and creativity the Myst Series does still have a few muliple world in them. But like any thing good you can only have so many sequels before things start getting a bit off.

but for now I still have Myst 1 threw 4 and will be installing 5 as soon as I get a sound card thats less then 10 years old.

For starters, of the games that I've played, I would reccommend the Journeyman Project series, Beyond Atlantis, Amerzone, Riddle of the Sphinx, and Syberia (I haven't got Syberia 2 yet but I hear it's a great game). Games of this type fall under the category of "adventure" and would be easier to find if you should be searching the web.
    I used to be a know-it-all. Then I made a wish...
I wished to be happy instead of angry all the time.
    Then suddenly...
    I forgot it all.

I have played a few of the Myst style games from time to time looking for a "fix". So far they have all paled in comparrison to Myst. I've played The Crystal Key which was pretty good until the end. The last "puzzle" was a little lame and not well thought out.
I have Beyond Atlantis but never finished it. I forget why. I think is had something to do with a very redundant sequence that bored me to tears. I can't remember. Maybe I should load it back up and give it another try.
I also have Mysterious Journey II. I started it and then a new Myst game came out and I dropped that game and haven't gone back yet. Maybe I will later.
I just really haven't found an adventure game that has the same depth as Myst. I dunno. Any other thoughts?

The only other Myst-like game I've ever played is the "The Longest Journey". It was fun, but it seemed very strict in what you needed to do and there was a little bit of violence in it (not do much directly on screen). But there is travelling through different realms and such.

I know there is a thread or series of posts somewhere in this group of fora of Myst-like games. I'll see if I can find that list and post it in here...

thanks I will havta check them out. I did find a couple of good ones The Omega stone was a good one, what I liked about it is it used real places like Stone Henge, Easter Island and those pyramids in Mexico/South America along with the caverns underneath. Another wierd one was Amber-Jouneys beyond which was kinda like combining modern technology and Paranormal resurch, I got Mysterious Journey 1 & 2 which was good havent got to the second one yet. I do have one rather violant game that my mom likes its called Bagdad Bowling, (a down load from years ago) you can hear her all over the house when she plays it, so you know she's having fun :-)

have yet to find something to compare to Myst But I will keep looking

Here are some replies from the Myst Hangout forum on this topic.
Here is a thread with the same question from one of the other Uru fora.
Here is a somewhat long thread about adventure games, with people comments and links to different games. I don't know how many of these links still work though.

There may be some duplicate suggestions and some random chatter, but I figured all of the info would be helpful.

Wow, I feel like a search engine...

Well, there's always Uru Live, if you're willing to foot the $15 monthly fee to get into Game Tap. From what I understand, they'll run it like a typical MMO (Warcraft, City of Heroes/Villains, Matrix Online, etc.) in that there will periodically be new areas opening up, with new Ages (and possibly new puzzles). There's even rumors of Age-creating tools opening up.

$9.95 US only, for now. BETA is currently involving international testers.
