To the developers and corporate managers at Ubisoft:
We, the loyal fans and supporters of the Ghost Recon video game series do hereby make public notice of all grievances directed towards the developers of the aforementioned game. We all have consistently supported the Ghost Recon series since its debut with numerous purchases of software as well as favorable reviews and word of mouth support for these products. We all have logged countless hours of playing time on many different versions of the Ghost Recon franchise. Your products have brought not just entertainment but relaxation to many of us who have at one time or another had very stressful times.
We do hereby declare that we can no longer sit idly by and remain quiet as you continually steer the Ghost Recon franchise down the wrong path. We would like to express our immense displeasure at many of the changes this franchise has undertaken in recent years. We do hereby formally declare a list of grievances put forth by many of your loyal fans that wish to bring Ghost Recon back to its glory days.
The original Ghost Recon and sequel Island Thunder were not the prettiest games to look at by today's standards. However, there was much more substance to these games than tweaks, new flashy coats of paint and "fluff". The last several Recon games have seen an addition of such unnecessary elements all the while reducing other core elements that made the game great. This is a mistake. The core of Ghost Recon as a tactical military shooter with the original two games as a foundation should always remain.
1. Tactical Shooter:
Ghost Recon is a tactical military shooter, not an arcade type first person shooter. Halo and other types of first person shooters should not serve as inspiration for Ghost Recon. We feel that Ubisoft has attempted to capitalize on the Halo market by making Ghost Recon more accessible to Halo fans all the while downgrading it from a tactical shooter to a "run and gun" game. What once was a game that had no competition has ended up becoming much too similar to many games on the market. Ubisoft has turned Ghost Recon into a clone of many other games rather than a unique experience. With every new release, this series goes further and further from the great core game it once was.
a. Two default online difficulties; Recruit and Elite.
i. Recruit would basically be an introduction for new comers, casual gamers or those who like to play with drones and radar, aiming assists, over the shoulder view, reduced maps, fast run and gun play and other friendly features.
ii. Elite rooms would be for those gamers who wish to play a truly tactical game. It would have first person view, no radar/drones, realistic accuracy and movement, open maps ( many of them large ) and overly a true tactical slant on game play.
We feel that these options would allow for the mainstream to still partake and enjoy the Ghost Recon experience, while allowing the presently forgotten long term fan base, to return to the previous glorious game play that has been so sorely missed.
b. "Over the shoulder view" or "3rd" person view is not acceptable in a tactical shooter. 3rd person enables gamers to hide behind objects such as rocks or fences, while still allowing for an unhindered view of the battlefield without exposing their own body in anyway to detection or enemy fire. 3rd person enables players to peek around corners by adjusting their reticule view to a 45 degree angle without exposing their bodies. This ability allows players to position themselves behind corners and walls without exposing their own body to detection while still maintaining clear unhindered sight of the battlefield.
c. 3rd person should be removed or changed so that this type of "peeking" does not allow gamers to ambush enemies with an unfair element of surprise. All 3rd person gamers can be found employing this tactic on the battlefield. When 3rd person is restricted during game play many gamers lose their only tactical outlook and are forced to employ actual strategy and tactics as opposed to always having the need to locate the enemy first. 3rd person promotes camping
d. Soldiers in heavy armor and tactical gear should not be able to run as quickly as they do in these new Ghost Recon games. While we do not ask for intense realism, it does become absurd when your soldier runs as quickly as they have been made to in these latest Recons.
e. Return the movement of the reticules to the panning speed they were in the originals. The speed in which your soldier's reticule move now is grossly inefficient considering how quickly opponents can run. It is not to unrealistic to be able to turn and fire as quickly as your soldier was able to do so in the originals. At the very least, make the speed of your soldiers panning optional to adjust. Simply return to the original version for cross hair mechanics or at least from that of the 1st GRAW. GRAW2 creates the feeling that your soldier is turning or panning in water.
i. The addition of the left trigger partial zoom is a nice feature. Please never incorporate the need to hold your breath before firing a shot.
ii. Many gamers have requested that a weapon model become visible during 1st person view. We suggest that the default method of no gun model be left as is but an additional option be added to incorporate this gun model similar to what is found in Rainbow Six. This option must be allowed to be turned on and off.
2. Maps:
Over the years the maps incorporated into the Ghost Recon series have almost always been exceptional except for the odd one here and there. There is an inherent design flaw in many of the maps for GRAW and GRAW2. Most of these maps are linear based. They are designed to have teams start at opposing sides of the map and move forward on a very linear path. Many of the original Recon maps had linear maps as well but there were many more that were much less so. Linear maps are enjoyable but all maps should not be designed in this manner.
a. To alleviate this problem, bring back the ability to assign re-spawn start locations such as the system used in Island Thunder. Many of the maps featured in GRAW and GRAW2 have areas of the map that are never used do to their inaccessibility or out of the way standing. In addition, it would ad much more re-playability to the maps to be able to change the re-spawn locations enabling enemies to engage one another from many different directions rather than simply from the default.
b. While most gamers are happy that their cries for "Embassy" to return to the map pack have been heeded, many other goods maps have been overlooked in the process. We suggest that a public opinion poll be taken using Xbox live gamer tags to vote for additional maps from previous releases to be included in additional Recon map packs.
c. A game editor which would contain a Mission/Map/Multiplayer game type edit options. If those in Ubisoft do not wish to continually be forced to come up with new and additional map packs, allow the Ghost Recon community to fill the void.
This editor would allow us the undersigned to create the game we want to play, the maps and missions we want, as well as the desired game types specifically fine tuned to certain maps. This editor should be fully functional and contain as many features as possible in order to better recreate the game play from the original Ghost Recon games as well as maps that would better function according to the needs of those who consistently partake in the Ghost Recon community.
3. Primary vs. secondary:
We request that an option be incorporated into the game that would allow for addition ammunition to be carried for the primary rather than your soldier automatically equipping a secondary pistol.
4. Medics:
Please incorporate an option to turn on and off the ability for your soldier to heal and be healed by other team members. This feature, while liked by some is dislike by others. Please allow for this option to be turned off.
5. Re-spawn invulnerability:
Please allow for a re-spawn invulnerability to be shut off. There are many who do not like to spawn kill and there are many who do. At least allow the host of the room to decide that for themselves rather than make it mandatory that it can not happen. Invulnerability helps ensure that teams do not have to protect their own base from enemy assault. Invulnerability creates a portion of the map that they enemy can not enter reducing the size of the map and increasing the likely hood that you will be shot by someone you can not shoot. Shields and invulnerability are for Halo. Do not make invulnerability mandatory but allow the option for the host to decide.
6. Re-spawn Location and timers:
Allow several options for re-spawning. First allow the option for random, smart re-spawning like in GRAW2. Second, allow for the player to choose which re-spawn they wish to use such as the system in GRAW. Try to limit the re-spawn locations to a more localize area like in GRAW. If re-spawn locations are too diverse, this creates a smaller map that is available to operate in, as well as an inability to progress deeper into enemy territory. Five re-spawn locations instead of 3 would ensure that it would be more difficult to spawn kill, however, give the host the option to set it from 3 to 5. Allow for the host to change the force re-spawn to 3 seconds.
We the devoted fans of Ghost Recon request that this series return to the roots of which made this game great, as well as allowing for much more customization of all settings involved in hosting a game. This series has been watered down enough and pandered to casual gamers all the while neglecting and aggravating the fans that have been here since the beginning. Ghost Recon was never a game that would allow first time players to compete with veteran gamers. This affirmative action of Ghost Recon must stop. This series must veer away from the desire to use Halo and arcade shooters as inspiration for future releases. Please begin to listen to those fans that have been with you since the beginning and stop listening to the casual gamers just passing through.
Hi guys,
It's great that you've taken the initiative to see how much interest there is out there for this sort of gameplay and I hope you get more votes. The thing is that GRAW2 360 sold over 150,000 copies in the UK and that thread, so far, has less than a hundred votes. It's still early days but a hundred votes accounts for 0.0667% of all GRAW2 owners in the UK - despite the voting being worldwide.
Maybe this sort of gameplay isn't as popular as you think?
I'm trying to be very impartial here so please don't think I'm trying to kill off your petition or anything. I'm sure if you guys can prove that a large percentage of GRAW fans want something then it'll certainly be strongly considered for the future.
Here is the thing, Razz. Look at the traffic on this board, or Ghostrecon.net. It is dead. There are hardly any GRAW fans. There are Ghost Recon fans, but they have mostly gone on to other things, as GRAW did not meet their gaming wants.Originally posted by UbiRazz:

Sure GRAW and GRAW 2 sold a lot of copies, and then people quickly put it aside and went back to playing other shooters our bought new games to play. GRAW 2 dropped out of the top ten in XBL played games in 3 months, or less. That never happened in OGR through GR:SS.
Also the traffic on the GR fan sites and message boards was much more active with the past GR games.
I would bet, that unless UBI puts a lot more money into marketing that the next (if there is one) GR game sells far less than GRAW2, no matter what the game play style is. A good number of the casual gamers that Ubi picked up with GRAW 2 sales were a result of limited choices in shooters. That won't be the case when the next one is released, and the casual gamers and GR fans both seem to have voted on how they felt about GRAW2 by simply walking away.

How many of the 150,000 gamers who purchased GRAW2 in the uk sold their copies simply because of the issues with it (players dropping out, and inability to invite friends, mic problems, etc) that was the final nail in the coffin. people are disintrested they had the game and are unlikey to vote now. its only really the fans that have stuck with it. they want a better direction for Ghost Recon. The forum is drying up Braybot and Geridak said they would be posting more and even they seem to have abandoned the forums. Come on guys stir up some interest,
The thing here is that with game sales and game sessions we can see that there is interest in the titles even although these areas are quieter. Maybe there is interest but just not the areas everyone's used to?Originally posted by Cons72:

With the top ten on Xbox Live, unfortunately it doesn't show numbers and probably isn't fair to compare to the original Xbox figures. With the huge uptake with Xbox Live and many more games being on there, you probably have a higher dilution of those figures therefore it seemingly reduces the GRAW figures.
I may get shot for this internally but if you guys really don't like a future title with the Ghost Recon brand (no idea what any title will be like, or even if there will be one) then don't buy it and don't play the current versions? That'd send a strong message. If people keep buying the games with the current gameplay styles then it proves that there is a market out there for that but if no-one does then there clearly isn't.
Seeing as the game dropped out of the live charts a few months after release, proves your point people simply put the game down. Why did it drop out of the charts? thats not the way forward for a title.Originally posted by UbiRazz:

I admire your honesty ubirazz. And i do think that a new GR game will sell nowhere near as many copies as GRAW did if they follow their current path.
But there is a way to both have the current gameplay and keep the old school players happy.
Ship the game with the current gameplay but include a map/mission editor. That way people can play the run&gun casual GRAW but the rest of us can recreate what we think GR is missing.
If we can tinker with accuracy, movement, maps, mission layouts and maybe even make small campaigns with text briefings at the start of each mission then everyone would be happy.
But as i said before i really appreciate the honesty.
