Seriously, I couldn't agree more. I'm not much of an anime fan. Hell I don't even like Naruto that much, but I am an Ubisoft fan and fighting game enthusiast.

Ubisoft, come on guys. Throw us a bone here. This secrecy is not helping. This is not Assassin's Creed guys. This isn't a big mystery like that game. I mean come on, Microsoft made it a point to present the freaking game as one of the biggest games in their holiday line-up at the E3 press conference. We basically don't know anything past what you've shown at E3! That was months ago now! The game's launch can be counted in weeks with one hand!

There's no better way to kill a game than by giving absolutely no information and having no advertisement budget. Give us a few more videos! Show a gameplay feature on the versus mode! Most people all ready know how the story progresses!

I repeat this isn't Assassin's Creed. This isn't some secret project you've been working on under-wraps for years. Why is there so much secrecy on this game? At least Assassin's Creed has that whole Sam Fisher in the Middle East during the Crusades with time traveling matrix effects, perhaps, maybe, maybe not, maybe yes... You didn't see that... And even then we know more about that game!! That's Ubisoft's Ace in the Hole, and we know more about that game and it's gameplay features than about Rise of a Ninja!

WHAT THE FUG! Ubisoft seriously... INFORMATION PLEASE!

All in all though, I know exactly why they're not giving out much information. It's a marketing tactic. The Ubisoft Montreal team that is working on the game is probably very nervous about it. They don't want to release too much information on it in case you crazy rabid Naruto fans don't like what you hear. You might not buy it if they tell you everything they're doing on it.

That's both a good and a bad thing for them and for those of us who are buying the game. I'll start with them. On the one hand with very little known about the game they're relying solely on brand recognition of the Ubisoft name and Naruto franchise. This means that even if you know little about the game you know that it's made by Ubisoft and that helps those who are Ubisoft fans like me and trust them to deliver a good game (I'm expecting an open-ended sandbox style Prince of Persia game with Ninjas...) Then there are the Naruto fans. The most crazy of them will buy anything with the Naruto name on it. That means they're securing at least those fans plus any of the normal fans who are interested in playing a game that is built from the ground up and not imported and translated from Japan (which I've heard haven't been that good). So what do they get? A nice big early adoption crowd. Those that will buy the game because it's from Ubisoft and those that will buy the game because it's about Naruto.

The problem with that strategy is that it can backfire on them. They're not giving out any information on the game. Therefore the game is almost a total unknown to those who aren't too informed about Ubisoft and may be on the fence about buying a Naruto game.

I just think Ubisoft is scared to give out information because they might turn away some of those who might already be buying the game. Another possibility is that the game just might not be that good. So they'll finish developing the game ship it out without any further information, and we'll all buy it up without knowing whether it's good or not.

Even if the only thing left is the list of playable characters they still won't tell us! You would think that by now they would know. This late in game development they focus on bugs, and optimization. There shouldn't be anything new being put in the game a month before it comes out.

Again, that's only if you think that the character list is the only thing left.

I'm a fighting game enthusiast. I want to know more about the 1v1 fighting game engine. I want to know what they're basing themselves off. Are they doing the traditional 3D fighting game mechanics?

Will it be something like Tekken where it flows more smoothly and it's easy to learn but hard to master? Tekken has a left punch/kick, right punch/kick button set up with grapples if you press them together.

There's also Virtua Fighter to consider which has the punch/kick/guard button set up. Which leads to a deep and satisfying fighting system.

Then there's of course the classic Street Fighter which has the weak/strong/fierce, punch/kick combinations. Which doesn't have set combos but it's easy to make your own.

There's Mortal Kombat of course which has the left/right punch/kick set up. It also has the special abilities which are unique to each character.

There's Dead or Alive which has the incredibly deep countering system. The series places emphasis on striking characters quickly and efficiently, and performing air juggles.

These games play totally different, and there are even more to mention. As far as I can tell it has the same sort of Virtua Fighter/Budokai set up. Which involves the punch/kick/guard combinations along with special moves. Obviously it's easier to copy Budokai's formula, because like it Budokai is based on an anime. And while it's hard to apply the whole Ki/Mana/Chakra mechanic to something like Tekken, I wish they would because that's my favorite fighting game series. It flows much more smoothly than something like Budokai which is much more technical and choppy in my opinion. Of course it's not only my opinion, that's why games like Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Dead or Alive, and Mortal Kombat are used in tournaments with big money and not Budokai. While I enjoyed Budokai, it wasn't the best fighting game and didn't have the staying power that a game like DOA or Tekken does.

Maybe that will change with Xbox Live. Budokai never had online capabilities. I hope Xbox Live does make a difference, because I'm looking for a new fighting game on my 360, and I wouldn't mind if it was Rise of a Ninja as long as it's good.

This brings me to another point. Ubisoft is notoriously known for not properly patching games once they come out. That's one thing Street Fighter II had going for it. The original game was broken. There were many patches made for it. It eventually became almost the undisputed king of fighting games thanks to frequent patches/builds back in the original Arcade days. Tekken and Mortal Kombat are the same. They weren't that great when they came out. They were pretty bad, but enough builds came out thanks to huge customer feedback. They eventually evened out all the characters to make them all balanced. Which brings me back to the whole "Ubisoft never patches games once released". Has anybody here played Splinter Cell Double Agent? Maybe Ghost Recon 2? Or perhaps the Rainbow 6 Vegas? You'd know how many cheats and horrible glitches there are in those games... Though still enjoyable they're pretty much abandoned as far as patching goes.

This is what happened with companies like Ubisoft which have annualized franchises. If this game turns out to be profitable for them and their licensing partners at VIZ and Shonen Jump, then expect this game to be an annualized franchise. Exactly like what happened to Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, and Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia, Raving Rabbids, and what will happen to Assassin's Creed and probably this game.

They'll release the game, patch it once maybe twice if there's technical problems like lag, and then instead of continuing to support the game they'll make the next game in the series. Which you'll be able to buy at full premium price of $65.

This also ties with the DLC problem. They'll probably make you pay premium price for extra characters or unlockables.... (Meh, I've been preaching for too long now I'll just post...)

I just want to put things in perspective for those of you who think we have more than enough information on the game.

If anybody has been to the Marketplace on Xbox Live you'll notice that there are many videos and trailers for many games that are coming out this year or the next.

    For example we have...

Halo 3

at least two ViDocs (video documentaries) "Et tu, Brute?" and "Is Quisnam Protero Damno!"

About 4 other different trailers and live action movies

a TV commercial

about 4 different picture packs and themes...
Now, I'm not going to fool anybody here. Halo 3 is obviously much bigger a game than Rise of a Ninja could ever be. Some of you apologists are saying, well Ubisoft obviously cannot match the greatness that is Microsoft's marketing arm for Halo 3, and you'd be right of course so lets keep going.

This next game isn't coming out till 2008...

Halo Wars

2 trailers

3 picture packs and theme

One 10 minute gameplay video with narration by the developer..
Once again I invoke the name of Halo. This might still be overpowering for Rise of a Ninja, but in my defense this game isn't coming out till 2008, and we still have more pictures and gameplay footage. Rise of a Nina comes out next month...

Ace Combat 6

A demo that came out almost 3 months ago

1 Trailer

About 8 themes and picture packs
Ace Combat 6 comes out in October

Army of Two

2 Trailers

1 Theme
Army of Two comes out in November

Beautiful Katamari

A demo that came out in August

1 Trailer

About 10 or 12 different themes and picture packs
Beautiful Katamari is special, because as far as games go the Katamari series is still little known and a very small niche market. Nowhere near the staying power and popularity of something like Naruto, yet they have more things and a demo!

I could keep on going, but there's way too many games. Other notable games which I'm also looking forward to, like those above, are Eternal Sonata, which has several trailers, gamer pictures, and a demo. Assassin's Creed which has several trailers and gameplay videos. Skate from EA which has trailers, demo, gamer pictures... So on, and so forth...

Of course we all know why Ubisoft fought hard over the rights to use the Naruto franchise. They wanted money, or at least "MOAR MONEY!"... But, they're not even acting like it. There should be a bunch of gamer pictures and themes. There are none so far. Hell, you can't even find Naruto: Rise of a Ninja, on the Xbox Live Marketplace, outright you have to go look inside the E3 2007 tab and then scroll down to find the E3 trailer... That's pretty sad Ubisoft...

Now, I'm not asking the developers to take time off from finishing the game to sit down and tell us everything about it, but having absolutely no other information past what was shown at E3 is kinda ridiculous. I know at least most of the art and animation team team has to be done (unless it's being outsourced to Korea, or Australia, or Shanghai, like you crazy developers like to do).

Most of the game should be done by now. Which means SOMEBODY could come over to the forums and talk to the fans. We're not asking you to go do an official interview with GameSpot, IGN, etc. I know that takes too much time to set up and such, but couldn't somebody in the office just grab a camera and start asking questions to the development team? Post it on YouTube, and link it to the forums? This thing would practically market itself with the huge amount of rabid Naruto and anime fans. Even information put here only in the forums alone would eventually spread out through word of mouth. You don't have to lead a massive marketing campaign through TV and on other websites. Just take care of the fans and they'll take care of you.

    Show us something Ubisoft...

Yeah. I Agree 100% with MangyForestCat i actually expected much much more from Ubi, i thought that by now we would have at least some gamer pictures and themes and a demo, Beautiful Katamari is realeased very very close to Naruto rise of a Ninja and I'm pretty much dissapointed, at least i expect it to be released next week at max...if not it will just suck...Games like MoH can release a demo 1-2 weeks before it's release because it's a established stable Franchise...so well at least i expect more info and a demo soon
