Thread: Are you glad Ubisoft scrapped the old 2007 conviction for this one? | Forums

I am pretty amazed that they actually took the advise of the fans. Is anyone else not amazed by this?

If you are not familiar with this Sam Fisher and the splinter cell game play was re imagined along the lines of the Assassins Creed style of game play. His blending in would to get lost in a crowd of people or using a hoody and diversion techniques. He also had a beard and shaggy hair.

I am pretty impressed with the new game that is conviction. I know there are some new things we saw in the video, however after hearing the narrator describing the game say you can play it the old way or the new way made me even more happy of where the splinter cell series was headed.

Now Ubi all you have to do is make up for previous faults in your plots.

I am eager to play this game.

Not even man, seeing as this game is now more action based. It is just as much of an alienation to the series as the earlier build. They where on the right track then just screwed up. M&E, Last know position, emp back packs, and not able to hide bodies is only a few of their screw ups. i dunno, it just annoys me.

I'm definitely happy with what I've seen of "new" Conviction so far. But I'm not quite sure Ubi have scrapped the 2007-version altogether though, there was some talk of crowds and blending when Sam gets to Washington. I can only hope that's not the case. Now I'm excited to play SCC and I want none of that social stealth rubbish.

I like the direction the franchise is going. much more fast paced and more of an action stealth game. The previous titles were too slow and more of a sneaking around game. I like all the things theyve added so far....The game is like a action shooter, with the best stealth in the gaming industry...I cant wait to play it

Very little. The old one looked great just needing some tweaking in terms of basic L/S, varied levels and better (contextual) control system.

The hobo look was great, especially if it wouldn't have lasted thorough the entire game.
The game itself could have offered all new layer to SC. I don't see the new version adding much of anything.
Warning: Everything above is an opinion
    The show must go on
What is this Splinter Cell you talk about?

I wasn't very fond of the fugitive gameplay in general, but some of the aspects could've worked well with the new build, e.g. throwing any objects at folks (better than killing everyone you meet) and using dropped cell phones and laptop thieving as distractions.

Still, we don't know what kind of a game it would've been in the end, so I can't say for sure. On one hand, I'm not glad they scrapped all the old gameplay features. On the other hand, I'm glad they scrapped the fugitivity, the hoboness, and the Tekkening and Hulk smashing of cops... @_@ Go figure.

Not in the least. I felt social stealth might be, combined with traditional stealth, a very good addition to the game, if done properly (as in Hitman, not Assassin's Creed which has no social stealth whatsoever).
The ability to completely manipulate the environment was also a very exciting idea as it would allow for a lot of replayability and sheer fun finding various ways to acomplish goals.

What I read about the new build makes me go "meh". Its full of "been there, done that". Only a bit dumbed down to boot.

Its ironic actually. The whiners got what they wanted - bitter is the taste of victory.

Splinter Cell has always been STEALTH-ACTION.

WOW! A STEALTH-ACTION game being more of a "sneaking around game?" No way?

My friend, no offense meant... but from what you've said you don't seem like much a fan of the Splinter Cell trademark gameplay.
