I am like 3 hours of returning to base on my first mission and there are no ships around, but no matter what window I open or what I try, I can turn the time compression up faster, is an orange 1 saying I can't go any higher. Is there some sequence, or something I need to change to make it go faster?

I think one of the ports is bugged. You can edit a .cfg file I think and manually remove the forced x1.
