Patch 1.02
Okay, I got messed up textures with catalyst 7.3, but reverting to 7.2 sorted the problem. However, I'm getting around 12fps in this game as reported by FRAPS. I've got an AMD FX62 CPU, and a single ATI X1950XTX card. I'm running @ 1280x960 with 4xAA & 4xAF, HDR, and everything on apart from Trilinear filtering.
I've done some experiments with settings (note: some changed settings often fail to take on the first go. It is sometimes necessary to set settings twice or even exit the game and re-launch. The game also seems to object to AA being forced in the drivers).
High quality shaders seems to have a large impact on performance, but disabling them has a large affect on the quality of the game, so this isn't really an option.
Anti-aliasing has the next sizable impact so it might be worth considering a higher resolution without AA. For example, 1600x1200 without AA produces around the same performance as 1024x768 with 4xAA. I failed to get Adaptive AA enabled, which is a shame, because 1024x768 with 4xAAA would be a better option visually.
HDR has less impact on performance. The visual benefit comes in the form of smoother shading on some effects. HDR is actually most noticeable in the Training missions, which look hideous without it.
Soft shadows are really not worth the trouble on ATI cards. In fact, shadows can look better without this feature.
I personally preferred to enable Trilinear but disable anisotropy filtering, but this is a matter of taste. I don't think there was much between them performance wise (4xAF that is).
So I ended up running at 1600x1200 with no AA, no soft shadows and no AF, but with all other settings enabled. An alternative was 1280x960 with 4xAA, but this proved slightly slower.

how can you run at 1600x1200 resolution?there is no such an option in the display menu?b.t.w,i think 1024x768 with all feature on(maxmim) works better than other set up coz my graphic card is x1950 pro.

I had the same problem with my Sapphire X1950XT graphics card with the Catalyst 7.4 Drivers , Then I switched back to 7.2 an everything runs smooth at a cost of some performance but ? didn't lose a lot of performance only 10 FPS drop ? noticed which is not a problem. I switched off Soft Shadows and Trilinear Filtering everything else is on ... And SCDA version is 1.02 ..
