Thread: Providing a service UBI? | Forums

  1. #1
Dear UBIsoft, i have played the majority of the Settlers series after being introduced to it by a friend who loaned me his game CD's to try. After that i have purchased & played them, seen the games progress and evolve over the years.

When i purchased Settlers 7 i understood that i would require a constant internet connection, while i disliked the idea... it wasn't an issue at this present time. What i was not aware of was this game relied on a server for me to play... silly me.
First day after downloading the game off Steam (today 8:20 am in Thailand, im Australian though just working oversease)
It say's Servers are down, try again later... Why the hell should i have to try again later? I expect to play now when I have the time not when it's suitable for UBI servers.

This isn't an MMO and yet your customers are relying on a service/server that's not being provided. You want us to use your new security features? fine, give us the freedom to play casually when WE have the time while still using your secruity features.

    Amen to that mate!

3 of us who bought this game spent 2 and a half hours last night trying to get my mates computer to connect to the Ubisoft server but to no avail. We Kept getting the 'The server is currently unavailable' message.

I like yourself am not keen on the idea of having to have a constant connection to the internet to be able to play something that I have bought and paid for. However I did buy this game knowing that I would have to have a constant connection and was hoping that any problems I had would come from my end not theirs.

If Ubisoft REQUIRE us to have a constant connection then we REQUIRE them to have a server working 24/7 as this is what I have paid for. I can understand routine server maintenance but having so many people have issues over such a long period of time is not on.

I hope Ubisoft wake up and smell the coffee pretty soon or they are going to be in a world of hurt when people stop buying their games.

Just never buy another Ubisoft game again, until this kind of harassment goes away.

I reluctantly purchased the game, think well I don't see any other games currently like this (like building games), and then face the server not available crap.

I wish I could return the game now.

And so, this is why you shouldn't buy these games from any publisher that uses this method of DRM. It restricts your ability to play when you want to play, not when the servers aren't farting up a storm preventing people from playing.

Save your money until UBI returns to a more moderate form of DRM so that you can play the single player game when YOU want to play it.

I've had no connection trouble yet although it's probably a matter or time. It has been taking a long time for my save games to sync (as mentioned in another thread) which is cutting into my game time...

I knew about the internet requirement when I bought the game and knew it would be a shambles, but I'll persevere because I really like the game and series. I won't be buying Assassins Creed 2 though - and I would have, had it not been for the DRM, since I enjoyed the first one.

I Purchased Assassins Creed 2 to try the DRM system (Through steam), i did however only just obtain it 2 weeks ago... i will say that i have had no issues with that game (over the last 2 weeks and on weekends i can play for 6 hours or longer when i have the time)so it influenced me to buy this one.

Had i been pre-warned or perhaps bothered to research before i went in and got this one, i would have waited 3 months again when this type of DRM is involved OR not bothered to purchase the game at all.

I would prefer not to go too far into the DRM Discussion on this thread as there are more than enough posts going around, unfortunatly, I like all of you want what im entitled to and that's to play this game and any other i may purchase whenever and wherever i want to. Thats simply whats not happening right now and it's not the service we have been offered. To those of you who say "Hey, just wait a couple of weeks until they work out the bugs" they should have done that BEFORE the game was released.

I hope to never hear "Server Maintenance" for single player games or else there goes PC games for me when this system is involved.

From what I can see, most of the server problems come with those who got the game from Steam. I personally bought the game at the local GameStop store, so I got the actual disk. The server connection through your Steam provider may be the problem, sense its unsure rather or not Steam also has the 1.01 patch yet.

I'm not seeing a lot of issues on the Steam Forums for Settlers 7 but i'll keep looking.

There is already a topic discussing DRM, please do not keep starting new ones.
