Out of curiosity: what's it with them diskdrives?
    Where's drive C:?

On my first install I had floppy / usb sd card reader installed and it screwed up my drive assingment on install. But I disabled it on the reinstall, I was thinking the same thing that maybe the drive letter assignment was messing me up but no dice.

Anyways, off to BestBuy to get me a us copy of 46. I dont feel good about it working but after watching DogFights on the History channel the other night Im hooked again, and getting desperate.

Kinda sucks, all I did was an upgrade the motherboard and cpu that I've been saving up for and I can't play. But before I whine too much..... I'll report back in a few hours hopefully from the skies.

    here's my new assigment

    ------------------------
    Disk & DVD/CD-ROM Drives
    ------------------------
    Drive: C:
    Free Space: 600.9 GB
    Total Space: 610.5 GB
    File System: NTFS
    Model: MASTER

    Thanks again

Thanks for clearing that disk thing up for me!

all I did was an upgrade the motherboard and cpu
Indeed it's weird that it's not running now...

    Was it running okay before?
Or are you all new to 1946?

If it was running okay before, the only thing I can think of is the Video driver, as I guess it's relatively new...

    Maybe try an earlier version?

You might not need to buy a US version of 46...

The conf.ini you posted looks weird to me.
perchance something else that went a bit wrong?
exit the game and do not run any il-2 utility. don't edit conf.ini at this time either.
    NOW
    run il2setup,
make sure to assign video and sound card, select settings for video and sound again. EXIT il2setup THEN edit conf.ini with notepad, set it to your resolution, save it.
Now start the game and make sure it says 4.07m
run the 144 MB 4.08m patch Direct it to your 1946 folder.
after that completes run the game and check it says 4.08m
NOTE: when editing conf.ini by hand the game or any utility or il2setup MUST NOT be running!

Well, Im back from BestBuy which wasnt too crazy. unistalled non-us and reinstalled with new us version and all is well.

Installed with the extact same slide show and fired right up. The only thing I can think is that maybe my new set up doesnt like secruerom.

But I want to thank everyone who took the time to post.

Now hopefully it doesnt get fracked up after I patch to 408

Red face I had the same problem

I've just bought a new system and have had exactly the same problem running under XP SP3 as per my older system which has no problem running IL-2 1946, but.........

I fortunately still have the old system up and running and when I took a look at the compatability mode details (right click 0n the IL2 icon and click properties), I discovered that my new install had set it up as running in Windows 95 mode, but my old had the compatibility mode box unticked.

Unticking the compatability box on the new system cured my problem.

Hope this helps anyone else who tunes in to this thread.
