Thanks man, I actually googled it and found a copy somewhere on the interwebz. Guess I missed the link in the PS. my bad. Im reading through it now...lots of good info in that article. Thanks for DL-ing my map...I have started a Deticated Server [X360] while im at work, with a good mix of custom maps and default ones on Capture the Diamond.

(also, do you know how I can change the 'display name'? I would rather it say 'Kindbud' than 'byron')

I'm brand new to all of this map making, but I'm fairly confident that I've made a pretty good map called "Hyrule OoT" for all you Ocarina of Time fans out there. I haven't played that game in about 5 or 6 years, but I think I captured the idea of it well.

It's complete with the Village that Link is from, the Great Deku Tree, the place you get the horse from, Hyrule Castle court, and two other spots that I can't remember the actual names of.

I also threw in a few surprises that the savviest of players will discover. It's quite a fun map and I'll gladdly DL your maps, too! Serach by the map name "Hyrule OoT" or check out by user: "svghenry"

    Thanks!

For console users, there's fcmaps.net. We've been around for several years now, going back to Far Cry Instincts on the original Xbox. We have a database with well over 3000 maps; there are organized weekly gaming sessions where you can submit your maps to be played, and occasional mapmaking contests. It's primarily a 360 site, although we are starting to branch out to PS3 now that Far Cry is on that platform as well.

There are other mapmaking communities out there as well. It's like with anything else, the more networking you do, the more friends you make, the better you're going to get noticed.
Brimtown thanks for posting this. I've been looking for a community like this for awhile. I just signed up, I've published 2 Far Cry 2 maps so far.

Double Cross (My first attenpt) and
Roadside (Which to me is much better after learning my way around the editor)

I'd love some feed back on both. Any of you feel free to hit me up with a friend request on Live for some Far Cry 2 action. Gamertag: FrogFang

I think I've got most of this covered.

Well all except the shameless self promoting, As I'm honestly just not the type to hype my maps up.

I've hosted games, But sadly all my friends have already moved on. And unless you have 3 people in a game no one ever joins or stays long enough to play. I've hosted games on numerous occasions. A couple of times normal hosting, A couple of times as a dedicated server. People join in from time to time. But not fast enough to get a real game going.

The key really does seem to be getting at least 2 or 3 friends in. Otherwise everyone just passes the game by.

Like the old instinct days. I think sometimes shameless self promotion has more to do with a maps popularity then the actual quality of the map.

I did have one map that seemed to be popular. I found my map Silent Battle in a couple of best of list about a year later. I remade the map on predator for the 360 and had a similar response.

But I just can't get people into a room. Never mind long enough for them to gain any popularity.

I've now made 7 maps, I'm particularly proud of the last two maps False Conflict V2 and Shipment (it has nothing to do with the CoD4 map) But I've more or less given up on making any more. If I can't get a room going to play the maps, Why spend the 20 to 30 hours it seems to take to make a map?

I hear what your saying kitty but please dont take the self promotion thing too seriously that was my way of saying advertise your maps to everyone.

your also right about getting games going and keeping people in the room I put a post up called 1000 maps to tell everyone how many maps are actually on the server so I could highlight the issue to Ubisoft.

I hope that you you change your mind and continue to make some maps for us as obviously you put a lot of effort into them if you made that many.

Between the difficulty with getting maps downloaded and played. Or even hosting a game. And the fact that a bug in the game makes my 360 freeze any time I try to load up a save game. I've I've more or less shelved the game other then the occasional MP match or two.

I'd love to jump back into the editor as I'm far from out of ideas. But it wont happen until I know the maps are being played. Or better still, I actually have the chance to play on them.

Ok, making one last effort at getting my maps played and downloaded. Made this topic here. The second topic I've made like this. But this one has pictures. Hopefully it makes a difference.

Also, my map is called "Fort Oasis" it has good design and features a sewer/tunnel system under the main 'fort' that also connects the two bases. I think it will become a hit very soon...

    Pimping - done.
byronthurston how did u do the tunnels under your fort?

The dosage alone determines that a thing isn't poison.
