Thread: Host has ended session "fix" (D-Link DI-624) | Forums

    *****************THE FIX********************
    -Disable "Gaming Mode" (Ironic huh?)
-Connect to your router with your internet browser by entering 192.168.0.1 (default IP for D-Link) in the URL bar.
-Click the "Tools" tab at the top.
-Now on the left bar select "Misc."
-One of the options you now see is "Gaming Mode", select "Disabled" for this option
-Click "Apply" at the bottom of the page

    *******************THE STORY*******************
A friend and I both bought this game, and both encountered the occassional "host has ended the session" error when trying to join a game BEFORE you even see the game lobby screen, where you would see people's gamertags. This particular problem is not that frequently occuring for us, and this fix has not seemed to have helped this issue in particular.

Here's what was happening, to my friend who has a DI-624.

Whenever my friend was in a game hosted by me or anyone else, some people who would join would be booted ALONG WITH MY FRIEND. I didn't notice this was happening at first, but eventually I realized he was getting booted when people joined the session. The newly joining person's name would say connecting for a few seconds, then both would get the host error. Not all people joining would cause this to happen, just some apparantly conflicting people.

On one occasion I was trying to get my friend into a particular game, and another person was trying to get their friend in. The other persons friend was one of these people that caused my friend to get kicked, and it happened EVERY TIME both friends were in the game at the same time. One could join, but when the other came in, both would get kicked. However I spoke with the OTHER friend, and he did not have this issue himself, so it was purely MY FRIEND causing the issue.

Once we disabled Gaming Mode (which is enabled by default) on his DI-624, this error has stopped. We've played about 20 games, and been in tons of lobbies testing all night, and it hasn't happened once. It generally happend with about 1/3 to 1/2 of the people joining the lobby.

So there you have it, try disabling Gaming Mode if you have a D-Link (or maybe its equivalent if you have some other router). Hope it helps, I'm so glad it did for us, now we can actually PLAY.

Most routers have a "reset" button in a recessed hole that reverts the unit to factory defaults, removing the old password and setting it to the original. Try reseting and then you should be able to get back into it with the default password.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Did you run the 360's "test xbox live connection" under the system blade/network settings with the gaming mode on and off? This mode may not be the true culprit. If the test shows the NAT to be resticted or moderate, you have some other setting wrong. With the Linksys Wrt54g, the UPnP setting will keep the NAT from being open even with all ports opened (DMZ).

Here is a test for checking the QoS of your network.

NAT is open. As soon as it is switched off he has a great improvement. He still has some issues, but he has a high latency connection (sattelite) so that may cause a timeout with the host. Also, even I have issue and I don't use a router. Another person I know has a D-Link and they had the same issue, I told them to turn it off, and they've had no problems at all since.

I was hosting in a lobby and 2 friends were trying to join my game but one of them kept disconnecting when various people joined, along with the joining person. I asked him what router he has, guess what? D-Link.

I use a D-link router with the game settings on and have no problems. But I do have the DGL4300 which is way more advanced than other models. Even though they run between $120 and $150, it's the only router I will recommend.

Changing game settings may not cure the real problem, just a bandaid. Settings like this usually involve opening ports for a specific machine. And that machine (the 360 in this case) needs a static IP so the router always knows where to apply the special game rules. Not hard to do but you do have to know how to do it correctly. Here is a site that may help them.

Also, they could check to see if they have the most current firmware. There are some routers that are listed as XBL compatible but not all firmware versions are.

WOW, Thanks is all I can say.

I hadn't been able to play a SINGLE MATCH, NOT EVEN ONE.

So I changed the stupid setting and I can't say it works flawlessly, but it works once in every 3 tries.....sometimes better than that...hey, it's better than nothing.

This is still Ubi's fault because I haven't had any problems with any games before this. Anyways, what is this supposed "gaming mode", what the **** is its function?

LEBATO, make sure you either have the DMZ set to your Xbox's IP, or set up port forwarding (Virtual Server on D-Link) for port 88 UDP, and 3074 UPD and TCP to your Xbox, as well. You also may still be getting the "host ended the session" error from someone ELSE joining with the same problem you USED to have. They join in and kick one or more people.

Last night I was hosting a game, and someone tried to join the game multiple times, everytime he tried, it kicked everyone out of the game.

Also, even with this setting off, there still seem to be other issues causing the error, but NOT causing this conflicting error I speak of, where multiple people are kicked. As IgniterRC says, make sure your NAT is open.
