    Hey guys,

I am a mid 30's guy who is looking to get back into making scale models. I used to do them as a kid but need to know who makes the besy quaility kits. I'd like to do ww2 German navy, Panzers, American stuff too.

Do you guys know any good sites for clubs, references to products and stuff?

I recently got back into model kits myself. I learned that one brand is not better than another brand. I did learn that even in plastic models, you get what you pay for. The higher priced kits have better instructions, less flash, better fit and greater detail. Of course the lower priced kits serve a wonderful purpose also. Use high quality paint, brushes, glue, and tools. Take your time. These seem to mean more for a good outcome than the kit itself. I like to do some internet research and get pictures to help with painting and detail work.

Here I am, just to let folks know whats going on, simply go to armorpax.com and click on the link for the Stuart RC tank. I am currently building one of these and super detailing it. Its about the size of a small lawn mower fully radio controlled. Yes, I do run SH4 in the back ground as I work on it. Just as soon as I figure out how to post pix I will. I am however taking mine a step futher with working head/tail lights and a sctch built interior. Thanks Tudds for getting in touch. BIG TANKS, BIG MONEY!

I used to build military dioramas (soldiers/tanks/trucks/armored cars/etc.) back in the late 70s, early 80s. Back then, the big names were Tamiya, ERTL, Airfix (can't remember some of the others). Started getting really good at it, had a nice airbrush for painting camo schemes, nice dry-brushing technique for weathered effects, hundreds of little tins or jars of paint, expensive 0, 00, 000, brushes for minute details.
Now, scratch building, that's hardcore. That's real modeling, from the ground up. Geez, a mower sized RC Stuart, that's really cool. You gotta post some pics, before and after so, for those who don't know, what scratch building is all about.
I saw some awesome, scratch built dioramas. Looked better than anything I'd ever seen that came in a box. I used to work, exclusively, in the 1/35 or 1/32 scale. Boxed stuff but, high quality. Good luck with that Stuart.

If you think thats cool the folks at the forum have actually built a 1/1 scale U boat conning tower. I thought I was cool doing 1/6th scale but these folks are of the hook. I will try to figure out how to post pix of my Stu. She is almost ready for the first base coat. I happen to have 2 Stu's. I plan on taking pix of both just to show the level of detailing envolved. I do not have a lot of room for model kits so this 6th scale makes up for it. Now that SH5 is in the works I will probably look into a 72nd scale model. Warning notice: the folks that I deal with at the Sixth Army Group (SAG) will do somethng in the form of a 6th scale U boat. Check them out at: http://www.sixtharmygroup.com/portal/index.php

Woah! These guys are way outside the box! Had no idea such things existed. Saw some cool little RC Shermans on History Channel but thought it was an isolated niche. Thanks for the link. Added it to my Faves. Just did a quick probe since I'm short time right now but will reconnoiter in depth later on.
