Thread: Using more than 1 skin mod at a time | Forums

  1. #1
It's my understanding that with Loman you can only change 1 skin at a time. When you want to use a different skin on a different aircraft, you first must uninstall the last skin you were using for whatever aircraft.

Is there a way to replace and use as many skin mods on as many aircraft as I want at the same time, doing it manually by replacing files for the aircraft in the LOMAC textures folder with those I DL from Lomacfiles? How?

There are skins I'd rather use all the time, like the SU27 Hi res skin in place of the original, which I could lose and I wouldn't care.

I know if I want to save the original skin files I'll need to create a new folder somewhere to save them in.

    Thanks

I agree with you, and Always wanted to have unlimited skinning capabilities, But im sorry to say, That this is not possible. This has been hard coded into Lomac during development, for reasons beyond me that it would be as it is now.

You will just have to deal with using easyto-use Tools like LOMAN to simply uninstall and install the skin when you choose to use it. I know it is a hassle, But ya gota live with it!

Bummer. Well, Thanks. Too bad they couldn't have coded it like IL2 and PF in that respect. It's strange they would code it so it's possible to have more than 1 mod like those for the cockpits, runways, liftlines, moon, sun, etc. all at the same time.

Not correct. It's not a Loman issue, its more to do with how LockOn handles skin textures. Loman CAN install several custom skins at the same time (if the skin developer wants). Usually though the skinning guys just make the changes through Loman one at a time. It's not necessary to uninstall a previous skin to install another one.

However it's than possible to run into filename conficts if two custom skins are trying to use the same filenames. In that case it might seem like you can only have one custom skin at a time.

The limit to the number of custom skins in LockOn is 1 custom skin for each original skin file set. If you look at the Loman zip file you'll see the filenames being used for that mod.

The good skin mods have readme files that explain which skins are being replaced.

If you have a filename conflict in two custom skin sets its possible to rename one set with the filenames of one of the stock skins to use them both.

Hang out some in the LockOn Skinners forum.

Thanks Romeo. I kinda figured it was a LOMAC issue. It's strange, tho. I'll install a skin with Loman and you'll see an AI plane with it but not the one you're flying.

The skin you Downloaded REPLACES one of the default skins already ingame. You cannnot litterally ADD a skin. Therefore, under the payload section, if you download a Thunderbirds skin, It WILL NOT say "USAF thunderbirds," But instead, it will say "V-212. Eagle-Ragers" for example. However, When you click on the default eagle rangers skin slot, the Skin itself WILL be the USAF Thunderbirds skin. Just look through all the skins for that particular airplane type until you find the one you downloaded and installed.

Thanks Kuoster. There are aspects of this game I haven't explored yet or know how they function. Such as the battle/mission planner and menus for such. I've mostly been trying to get the game to run and be stable since I got it. Now that I have that sorted out I've been playing only the quick missions, a few of the "Open Missions" and training tracks available to learn the different avionics/weapons packages and tactics. I like being able to fly different skins tho.

Like in your example, I've tried installing the Thunderbirds skin thru Loman but have never seen it in game. I'll check out the payload section you mention and try to figure it out. Thanks for the help.

yup, the only way to change this skin is by going to the payload section of the mission editor. There you can change everything; fuel, skins, aircraft tail numbers, weapon loadouts, ect.

Well I have looked around in the mission editor and I can find no payload section. I can't seem to find a screen like what was posted earlier that has the payload section button.

Do you have to program a campaign first before you see that?
