    Hey guys,
HoMM 6 is looking good and it got me interested in the franchise. I have a few questions that I am sure someone here can help me with:

    - While searching for info about the franchise I see loads of games called "Might and Magic" and a bunch called "Heroes of Might and Magic". What exactly is the difference between these two series?

    - I am looking to buy a complete pack/anthology of Heroes of Might and Magic. I found "Might & Magic Heroes Collection" on Amazon. This pack seems to have every game except one of the expansions for HoMM 2, "The Price of Loyalty". Can anyone confirm this? Is there a reason that expansion is not included?

I am looking forward to getting HoMM 6 and want to get into some of the previous games.

    Thank you

They are not different types of games. For all practical purposes, they all belong to the very same series of games -- from HoMM I (1995) to MMH VI (2011).

The name was changed because the new publisher (Ubisoft) wanted to integrate all its "Might & Magic" games under a general brand.

Call it "Might & Magic Heroes VI" or "Heroes of Might & Magic VI" : very same thing -- except that Ubisoft prefers the new brand-label.

    Thanks for the info.

I was reading about the original "Might and Magic" series, starting with "Might and Magic Book One: Secret of the Inner Sanctum" (1986), where the game is from a first person point of view. Is the storyline from those games continued in HoMM I (1995) and on, or do the games starting with HoMM I occur in a different universe?

If I never played any of these games, would I be totally lost or lacking story-wise starting off with HoMM 6?

Might and Magic (RPG)was the game that started the series, it set up the back bone story of the Might and Magic world.
Heros of Might and Magic (TBS) is the spin off game of the Might and Magic series. It is another series of game that its campaign mode are bases on what the Might and Magic left off.

However, starting from Might and Magic IX and Heros of Might and Magic IV, the original story line has officially ended. So now every new Might and Magic or Heros of Might and Magic is lacking any longtime story line, instead, new story line are created base on whatever the writers wants to write. For example, Might and Magic dark messiah and Heros of Might and Magic V-IV

The games MM1-9 and HoMM1-4 are all set in the same universe.

HoMM1-3 and MM6-8 are set on the same planet named COLONY, and when HoMM4 and MM9 came out, that planet was destroyed and the games were set on a new planet.

The whole Might and Magic mythos is a bit complicated

Might and Magic are the RPG titles
Heroes of Might and Magic are the strategy / tactical turn based titles of the series
HEROES OF MIGHT AND & MAGIC COMPLETE COLLECTION seems to have all games.

The best place to start would probably be part 2 of the series. By the time you're done with 2-5 the final installment might actually be worth the $10 or so you'll need to pay for it because currently you really only want to buy i if you don't mind paying for a beta version of the game.
