Thread: Triple screen help | Forums

1. #1
I am a complete newbie on IL-2 and am having a problem, maybe someone can help or direct me?

I have tried several of the steps listed but cannot get IL-2 v 4.09m to go triple screens. I have changed the render to 1 and the resolution to 1680x1050. I run triplehead 2 go digital with win7 and trackIR Pro v 5..

I tried the Sans FOV changer but it keeps giving me the same errors when I have made the changes as directed.

I figured I would wait overnight and return to the problem and it would become apparent; not so lucky.

Help!!!!!

Hi Rick,

I have been a longtime TH2G user, I really like it. There are 2 ways you can use the TH2G:

1) 3 Views of 4:3 aspects (3072x786, 3840x960, etc)
Use3Renders=1
SaveAspect=1

--OR --

2) 1 View streched across the screens and Sans FOV changer would be needed.
Use3Renders=0
SaveAspect=0

If you want option 1 of using 3 seperate views across each screen then you will need to select a resolution that is a 3x multiple of a 4:3 aspect ratio.

For example if you have 3 monitors each set to 1024x768 (4:3 aspect) then the resolution in the conf.ini would be 3072x768.

It HAS to be 3 times a 4:3 aspect ratio for it to work, if you use a non 4:3 aspect ratio then IL-2 will reset the Use3Renders option to 0 when you start the game.

The resolution you have selected will not work, 1680x1050 is not 3x 4:3.

Personally I use 3072x768 because I found the game is more optimized for dots on a 1024x768 res. But you could go up to 3840x960 (3x 1280/960).

To use 3072x768 you would set the res in Windows to 3072x768. Then edit the conf.ini for
width=3072
height=768
Use3Renders=1
SaveAspect=1

To use 3840x960 you would set the res in Windows to 3840x960. Then edit the conf.ini for
width=3840
height=960
Use3Renders=1
SaveAspect=1

For option 2 of one big single screen just select the desired size and the game will crop the view to fit accordingly.

Example for 1680x1050:
width=1680
height=1050
Use3Renders=0
SaveAspect=0

Keep in mind the width and height set in the conf.ini equals your entire screen resolution across all 3 screens, it is not the resolution of a single screen.

Thanks Striker, but before I try these settings I need to get Sans FOV Changer to work, I think.

I get this error no matter what I do.

"Ups!. Can't connect with IL2.
Common errors.
1) Check if the IL2 process is called ilfb.exe or il2.exe. If not rename your il2 executable file.
2) Check if the confi.ini has lines (Warning with case): [DeviceLink] port 1171
3) Check that you have a file called devicelink.txt in your IL2 folder. If not update your game."

I have verified all of the above, changed the exe back and forth, linked the exe to the fov changer etc......

Obviously I have missed something but what?

Thanks
Rick S.

You can do that if you prefer but Sans FOV Changer is not required and you will still need to address the other issues. Sans FOV Changer just modifies the FOV. This is handy if you go with Option 2 and stretch a single view across 3 screens.

Personally I would try to get the game working first. Once you have the game working correctly using Option 1 or 2 then I would try to get the 3rd app (Sans FOV) to work.

I prefer Option 1 where you have 3 individual views, one per screen. This does not need Sans FOV changer.

However not everyone likes that mode so if you opt for Option 2 with 1 single view across 3 screens then Sans FOV changer will change the FOV to make it more usable.

The errors you posted are indeed with San FOV but I don't have any experiece with that since I don't use it with my TH2G setup.

Looks like you have an issue probably with your devicelink config, can you post your conf.ini? Also post your aggregate screen resolution across all 3 monitors.

I have attempted to run in 1680x1050 but it does not work. I have had success at 1600x1200 but still cannot get triple screens to work at all? I have gotten San FOV Changer to work but it still does not pass it's test option.

IL2 does work, just not in triples? Frustrated.

Thanks

What is your aggregate screen resolution across all 3 monitors? For example with my TH2G I have Windows set at 3072x768 (3 screens, each at 1024x768).

Also do you want to use Option 1 - 3 Views (left view on left screen, front view on middle screen, and right view on right screen), 1 view per screen, or Option 2 - 1 big front view across all screens?

Based on the answers to this and the conf.ini you posted I should be able to help you out.

Can you try this? If it doesn't work please describe what you see as the issue. Once we get the game going with the proper setup you want we can look at making Sans FOV changer work. Since you want Option 2 the FOV changer will be useful to have as without it your view will be very close up.

[window]
width=5040
height=1050
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=1
FullScreen=1
DrawIfNotFocused=0
EnableResize=0
EnableClose=1
SaveAspect=0
Use3Renders=0

** IMPORTANT NOTES **
1) After you change the conf.ini do not open the Video options in the game menu or run the il2setup program. This can cause your custom settings to be changed. Just open the conf.ini and make the changes directly in the file.

2) When you start the game the splash screen and game menu should still be on only one screen, the others will be dark. Go to QMB and start a quick mission, if everything is working OK then you will now see the game across all 3 screens.

Thanks Striker, it appears to be working right now. I have all three screen, I can change my FOV and TrackIR5 Pro is working. Now I have to read up on how to program my stick and Hotas. Looks like that might take a while too!

Then on to UP 2.01. Have it downloaded waiting till I get it all working.

BTW, you mentioned 4:3 vs 16:9? It appears to be working okay at 5040x1050 which is 16:9?
