void.bmp -- How the heck do you find what you're supposed to paint?

I needed a SBD Dauntless for a campaign I'm building so I set to work painting up a skin using the SBD void.bmp.

There are several things I can't seem to locate, such as the antenna mast and the project is turning into a royal pain in the ****.

Don't get me wrong, I want a decent skin as a final product, I just wasn't looking to make it's creation a new career.

It's also a pain to have to wait for the game to start, set up a QMB, pick the plane I'm working on, just to check it out in flight to see how the paint jobs going.

Is'nt there an easier way? Perhaps some type of aircraft veiwer like in the sim. Some kind of program that you can run and view the plane without starting the sim and something that let's you zoom in and around?

Did you try Adlabs panelfinder? it gives your plane all kind of fancy colors and numbers so you can find your part on the void.
It can be downloaded from: http://www.1java.org/sh/ go to tools and download the panelfinder.

    Hope it helps you out.

Have a look at an existing skin and see if you can work out where to paint for certain areas.

I'm afraid a viewer for skins doesn't exist. It sure would be nice, but the only way is to view in-game
I never went into the air thinking I would lose.

Thanks fella's. It would be nice to have such an aircraft viewer!

As for the Panel finder. Sounds great but I can't get it, same for a skin to use as a guide. The link from Skinners Heaven takes you to IL2 skins dot com which is down for the moment. As it is now, I haven't been able to find a skin any where else.

I'll just have to keep stumbling on the way I have been.

    Thanks again.

you can get his panel finder from here, checked the link and it works

The mast and things if i remember rightly just below the left tailplane and a vertical line running up between the cockpit detail on the right side............ but fear not I have uploaded the 10mb template i did for il2skins with 3 different weathered paintschemes on it for you to use, strip it and rip it to get the parts u need or just use it as is...its on photoshop 7 but should be ok on PSP......Please let me know if you download it here as I have had to remove other things off my small webspace to do this for you.. i will then remove it off my space and reupload some of the stuff i have had to remove to get it on.

Thanks Taylortony. I got both. Might take me a while to figure panel finder though!

I tried it as instructed and took a bunch of screen shots. (Looks weird!)I just have to figure out the numbers and where they relate to the skin bitmap.

    Thanks again

I will try and get it sorted for psp for you, the error normally is caused by one layer

That would be great, thanks. You don't have to do anything fancy. A plain old bit map will do.
