Thread: What happened to Rainbow Six being a Global Counter Terrorism Organisation? | Forums

Just to begin with, i'd like to state that i'm looking forwards to seeing what could become of R6V and hope that it returns R6 to being a solid game. Anyway i'm sure the gameplay can become very entertaining, but couldn't the whole idea of being set in Vegas be less exciting in terms of maps?

Now I live in Australia and have never been to Las Vegas so I don't really know what type of buildings and attractions there are that can be modelled for the maps.
My point is, that I know Rainbow Six as a global counter terrorism team where you were sent on missions around the globe with some diverse enviroments (mainly R6 and RS maps). Now I assume we will just be completing missions on streets, in Hotels, in Casinos and other various buildings which will probably seem more suited to sending in the local SWAT team, given that the game is based in one city and not worldwide in missions that require a special forces team such as Rainbow.

I know the decision has already been made for R6V and don't get me wrong, i'm sure that the developers will come up with some nicely designed maps and if the game on a whole is great to play and offers a challenge, then I will still enjoy taking out the terrorists, but from what I can gather, gone will be the anticipation in seeing what the next environment and location your team will be thrown into.

google it, at night it reminds me of Hong Kong but on a much smaller scale, still its impressive. My guess is because the hotel/casinos are all theme induced, (the Luxor is egyptian, the Parisain, the Venetian, Monte Carlo, New York New York, etc etc. ) they offer there own blends of flavor to a map, though I dont know how they get around paying a small fee for using look a likes.
Where Life had no meaning, death sometimes, had it's price. That is why the Bounty Hunters appeared.

I believe they are only using 1 city as a setting because they are going for a more 'real time' style route of play. The whole story within the game happens over 12 or so hours so it isn't really that realistic for them to globetrot within that period.

I think they are follow the GRAW route with no breaks in the game between missions, everything streams together.

Yeah, I was just browsing the web and looking at some of the photos of Vegas, some nice shots.

Ahh fair enough point given that Vegas is the setting. I'm just so used to the good old days where Team Rainbow travelled the world to different environments/locations.
Aslong as R6V brings us a R6 game we've been hoping for, then all is good.

Not sure if you realized it or not, but we have mutiple maps from this series already based in the examples you gave as not appropriate for a global counter terrorism organization.

I think the government wants to socialize gambling and our job is to eliminate organized crime in vegas.

Heh ... makes more sense than protecting domestic terrorists from international terrorists. Evacuate all the innocents and let them kill each other off.

It goes side by side with the 'interactive movie' approach already described by KungFu.

Also, IMHO, it's probably a 'psychologic' strategy to encourage the player to finish the campaign in a single week-end.

And that's just another way to reduce replayability, along with linear levels and single insertion points (if they dare to do that again).

That way, instead of playing again individual levels separately (and with reduced replayability value because they are so strongly tied to the preceding and following levels), the customer is more willing to look for another UBI title the next week-end ($$$)...

Sometimes, I feel that UBI is so predictable in it's ways of doing business...
