Thread: My torpedoes are bouncing off hulls everwhere | Forums

I've been playing in the 1939 campaign in a type 2 sub.

I've gotten in real close to enemy merchants... about 400 meters close... shot off a torpedo... and it bounces off the hull when it hits! This has happened with 9 torpedoes in a row.

Is there some sort of minimum range you have to be in for a torpedo to detonate? To keep your sub safe or something?

I've also set them to MAX speed and trigger type "d" (detonate on contact I believe it is, instead of magnetic). No go. I've also hit the merchants from several angles.

Try messing around with speed and trigger type then? I would assume slower speed would mean shorter minimum range, for instance.

I've been reading lately that the failure rate of early-war torpedoes was something like 80%, so it doesn't sound entirely unrealistic to me...

From memory the Pistols dont arm themselves under 400M range. If your in too close they wont have time to activate.

What you know you can't explain, but you feel it. You've felt it your entire
life, that there's something wrong with the world. You don't know what it is,
    but it's there,

I've been using 47% realism and my torps aren't detonating as well. I even had em at 90 degrees too. Just a big plunk. Im rolling out in 1940 tho....and my dud settings is realistic...guess I'll try to chnage it but it sounds like that may not help.

no no no! u guys check the other torpedo thread! as i said, the optimal setup for a successful torpedo hit is less than 1000m but not too close.. probably greater than 400m.. other than that, make sure u are close to 90deg angle.. this will not guarantee a successful hit, but will maximize your chances.. happy hunting!

Blue: But wait I was shooting at 2000m and I still hit em! They just weren't exploding!

    Tomcat:
I still have it. Are you getting into virtual film making? If so....you won;t be done for at least 2 weeks then your bandwidth will be back up.

Oh and have an aspirin ready for the install. It doesn't go very smoothly.
