ok... i've seen stuff about these two standards. i've heard that the second (new standard) is more correct, the original (old standard) was based to much on the idea that people like me trying to write it down spoke english... or some such thing.

my question is... will it matter if i don't use the new standard? what are the real advantages/disadvantages to the different systems? i'm more comfortable with the old, but that may be because i don't want to go to the trouble of typing accents on my letters.

    any thoughts?

I think that both are correct and one should use whatever they feel most comfortable using, frankly. Since we've never heard a native D'ni speak, we certainly can't be entirely positive how things are pronounced. Since Dr. Watson hasn't found or chosen to release the Rehevkor if he HAS found it, we can really only speculate on a lot of words.

This is only my opinion but it's also shared by a lot of people, I find. The NTS is more precise when one is trying for total accuracy but it's very user unfriendly, unless you have a character map handy or a good memory or some European keyboard mappings. I don't have any of those.

I use the OTS most of the time to go along with Cyan's offical standard and the fact that most people can read it easier. There's arguments as to the overuse of the letter h but that's just preference. I read somewhere that RAWA tends to just use the h to clarify the ay and ah sound and an ending e sound. Any more than that is personal preference and if someone tells you it's wrong, you can always tell them that RAWA doesn't care, as long as one can pretty much tell what the word is and that one has fun learning the language.

    Hope this helps.
