If you recall, (Well, if Quillian recalls.) A few months ago I made a topic about how my dad was looking for graphics cards to juice up my hunk o' trash PC a bit. Around a month ago he contacted a friend he has who works for ATI, and he said he'd buy us a Radeon X850 XT Platinum Edition. Does anybody use this card, and what are the pros and cons of this card? I know for at least a few weeks I'll just marvel at the speeds and graphics quality. (It's coming in about 4 days. FINALLY!) But, after that, what speeds can I expect in CT or other games?

Let's put it like this: up until a few months ago, that was the most powerful video card money could buy. The comparable nVidia model (the 6800 Ultra) supported Shader Model 3.0 (the 850 doesn't, but very few games even use SM3 yet), but was slightly slower in most applications.

Regardless, from the strictly graphical standpoint, that card is powerful enough to run just about anything you care to throw at it. You might find yourself bottlenecked by other components in the system (I don't recall the CPU or memory now), but it will allow you to crank the graphical settings up and things will look much better.

    WOO! Thanks for the reply.

Finally, I'll be able to turn some options on. For the past few years at least I've been running games at high quality, then medium, and then as low as the settings can go. But not anymore!
