Apologies if this has been posted previously. Didn't want to wade through all the new SH5 threads.

    SH5 IGN Preview

    Keep it real.

[Edit] - I hope this can be turned off via the options:

"...The new tactical map also appears in a small corner of the map, and even shows contacts and your own field of view so you can tell what's what in the periscope. You can also plot moves on the tactical map and see the enemies' visual and hydrophonic detection ranges. This helps players adjust their speed (which affects their sonic signature) and their periscope depth (which affects their visual profile)..."

I saw that same trailer at the Official Silent Hunter 5 web site yesterday. When I was there before it did not have this trailer, it was just a blank screen.

Click here to check it out.

(thing still won't let me click on my signature option when I post.)

Hello. I'm an experienced Kaleun with a few years in the North Atlantic. The only mods that I run are the ones from SubSim, very basic stuff in a VIIC (thank you Viking granddad). I was some what disappointed with SH4, and went back to SH3 with great success. I watched the trailer of SH5 and regardless of what "might" happen it looks very cool !!

I watched the video and I am glad that UBI are returning to u-boats. I have played Silent hunter right from SH1 to SH4 at the moment. Although I do like SH4 I can't get used to being American. I have the u-boat version (1.5) but it feels wrong to be in the Pacific. Can't wait for SH5 and to get back home in a proper u-boat in the atlantic.

By the way, I do hope that the American accent in the video is purely for the video. I want my captain to speak English with a German accent please.

Also is there any chance that Ubi would ever coside porting Silent Hunter for Linux? I only have MS windows on my system to play SH4.

Ahh it's not hard to do. First off, you watch lots of baseball. Eat hot dogs, especially while watching baseball. Dessert is Apple Pie. And drive a Chevrolet. This gets you into a normal American frame of reference. Oh and you must be totally devoted to your mother.

Now, if you want to be an Ultra Right Wing Nut Job American, you also listen to Rush Limbaugh for at least 6 hours a day while wrapped in the Flag, sleep with a pistol under your pillow and a semi-automatic rifle under the mattress (where all your money is as well) and absolutely refuse to consider the plight of anyone less fortunate than yourself. Above all you must not have an original political thought, ever.

Now if you want to be an Ultra Left Wing Commie Bastard American, your TV never leaves MSNBC, you will join at least 3 groups devoted to repealing the 2nd amendment, you want to save the world at any cost, you sleep with the Communist Manifesto under your pillow and above all, you must not have an original political thought, ever.

I hope you have enjoyed this brief treatise on how to get used to being an American and I wont blame you a bit if you decide we are all a bit daft.
