Thread: X-52 How To Make Hat Function As A Mouse | Forums

  1. #1
I have a profile for my X-52 which was downloaded and I have edited it for my own taste. In the profile, HAT#2 is set up as buttons and the mini-stick is set up as a mouse.
So far, so good, except I want to change the HAT#2 to mouse and I can't. The option "mouse" is greyed out in the profile editor and I can only select POV or Buttons (4 or 8).
Now, I have another X-52 profile which was also downloaded, and in that one HAT#2 *is* set up as a mouse and works fine. I can switch it back and forth from mouse to buttons and back no problem. The mini-stick is set up with axis bands, but get this: I can't change it to mouse! *That* option is greyed out.
I should be able to change these things at will. Each of these profiles illustrate that ability, except on different controls, but one can't be changed to match the other.
What's wrong here? Why are these options greyed out and how do I get them to work?

You can probably only have 1 device set to 'Mouse'. Try turning off 'Mouse' on the control that is currently set to it, then setting 'Mouse' on the other control.

you can't have more than one mouse assignment at once, but you can have one HAT report as a mouse in one mode, and another report as the mouse in another mode, just so long as you only have one active mouse @ a time. Same thing for pinkie(shift) key.

Well, I, uh, don't think it's quite fair to condemn a whole program because of a single slip-up, sir.

    Thanks, guys!

That's too bad. I wanted to have them both report as a mouse, since they respond quite differently. I was going to have the HAT for quick view movement and the mini-stick for fine adjustment. As I have it now, the HAT is working with pan views that snap in 45 degree increments. It's almost as good. I guess I'll have to try them both out and see which I prefer.

Why don't you have the ministick do course adjustment and the ministick plus Pinkie shift do fine adjustment? Or the same with Hat2, which is how it's done in my profile (download link under my sig picture).

Ah, Tully! Now I see that one of my downloaded profiles is yours!! I have it in the editor now. Thanks, I hadn't explored the pinky-shift options. I have the pinky-button assigned to a key command at the moment. To be perfectly honest, I'm still getting to know the ins and outs of this profile editor. (Add onto that nearly a month waiting for Saitek to deliver a new set to replace a defective one)

I don't run an X-52 but I do use newview for my hat on the joystick.
I'm just curious if newview could be used to fool the 2nd hatswitch into behaving like a mouse of sorts?

    Tully will know.

If that is correct, you should be able to leave a hat in the default DX assignments and use NewView to convert its output to mouse emulation while still using the Saitek profiling to control the output of other buttons/hats on the controller.

Newview is a real nice program, escpecially for those of us that can't afford expensive HOTAS control systems.
I use the keyboard, an old MS sidewinder twisty stick, a wireless scroll mouse, a trackball mouse 1 usb gamepad and Newview to tweak stick settings for POV and trim on gamepad sticks.
My cockpit is very comfortable and functional.
Hours of flight time with no fatigue.

    Cost less then $30
