My video card died today and on further research I have narrowed the choices to either an ASUS GTX 260 896mb or an ASUS Radeon 1gb 5770 HIS
due to availabliity and comparable prices.
If anyone here has experience of these cards and their performance I would be appreciative of the input
Thanks in anticipation.

You would probably get more replies on tech questions in the Community Help section of this forum .Anyway mod may move this post there .Now I believe the basic story is that theres probably not much between them in speed in general use ,the older GTX260 may even be a bit faster but the 5770 is newer with DX11 support .
If you play a mix of modern games (and are likely to continue installing new games) then Id say go 5770
But while not nearly as pronounced as in the past IL2 runs generally faster on nvidia than Ati cards .Some people including myselfprefer the image quality on ATi cards .Id describe it as being more 'cartoon coloured' BUT vibrant and crisp whereas the Nvidias image quality is more 'realistic' but muted and dull/hazy.
If its any help my upgrade path for last few years has been X1900XT 256 - 8800GTS640 - 8800GTX - 4870 - 4870X2 - GTX295.I reckon smallest improvement was in going from 8800GTX to 4870 biggest probably 4870X2 to GTX295
If you get an EVGA card you can "Step up" in a few months to a better newer card and not lose a cent of what you paid ...

Thanks for the information and putting it into community help is probably a good idea.
I was wanting to get a 280 gtx but they seem to be discontinued at all the suppliers that I contacted -- reason being --no more stock from Nvidia forthcoming, as a new range of cards are due in April/May400 series)

No need to delete. Will just lock and it will go away by itself.
