Can any Mac users run the "emersive effects" option? | Forums

My machine is a brand new Dual 2.5GHz G5, Geforce6800Ultra, 1GB RAM.

I cannot play with the "emersive effects" graphics option turned on, and am wondering if others have this same problem? When I turn it on, starting a new game crashes me to the desktop with a crash error report to send to apple. The same goes if I'm in-game and try turning on the "emersive effects". The crash error report refers to the Geforce drivers, but I cant interpret it beyond that at all. If you do have this problem, could you post your system specifications as well? Thanks!

I have emersive effects on for the PC and everything is hunky dorry.

Well, thanks to you Protein for posting, I can now at least play the game - I wonder what we are really missing w/o those 'special immersive effects'? Should I wait to see if 10.3.6 fixes it so I can better be immersed?

Kinda blows when ya have a speedy machine and high end graphic$ card and you cant spike all the settings.... anybody got a tissue?

Thanks for the response maz. Kudos to you for all the hard work you're doing around here!

Strangely enough, immersive effects are now working for me. I still cannot start a new game with it checked though. As I progressed through the game I kept going back to options. For a while I'd activate the effects, play a little, and when I'd go back to options I'd find it unchecked again. But somewhere between meeting Yeesha again (w/ the lizard) and porting to the icy/electric age it started staying checked.

So I have no idea what's up, but I guess the immersive effects are working 'cause it stays checked now. Can't say as I really notice any change with sound or graphics. They are both absolutely stellar and have been all along. Perhaps it was always working and/or there was/is some kind of redundancy or conflict in the beginning section.

I feel better now! (hehe)

I have exactly the same problem and sent a report to Ubisoft. Has anyone tried with a prerelease of OSX 10.3.6 to see if that fixes the problem?

The immersive effects, when activated, cause crashes when linking or loading to areas that contain certain things or effects.

For instance:

Game crashes to desktop when linking to Yeesha's age, just before age loads. If I turn off 'special immersive effects' it loads fine. Note that bubbles are visible as age loads. I believe the crash is caused by the bubbles. If I stand by the bubbles and go to options and activate the effect it will crash upon returning to game.

I can play with them (the effects) on just fine. I can look at and/or interact with the bubbles in game. Its just when they are 'loaded' that they cause a crash.

Ahh, good to see I'm not the only one with problems here. Interestingly enough, I've played through the whole game, up until Serenia, with only random crashes. However I crash each time Serenia is loaded (after the fly-around), so was unable to continue the game. I will now, on your advice, try turning off the immersvie effects. Hopefully that'll solve my problem and let me continue playing!
