I've no doubt that this is a bit of a chestnut but!!

Having just bought IL 2 and got it installed can anyone explain why in all the training missions the aircraft crashes before the end but the commentary continues as if nothing has happened? Is there a cure for this?

Are you saying that the aircraft crash to the ground? Which IL2 game are you playing, I'm thinking that maybe you installed the patch order incorrectly

The training missions were designed to operate in the release version 1.0. As time has gone on, all newer copies come patched. With changes made to the FMs, the a/c no longer perform the same making the training missions useless.

    Some more detailed info:

The training missions in the original IL2 Sturmovik version of the game are track files (.trk). These are recordings of missions flown by the trainer. The files contain the mission file information from the original mission and the control inputs used by the instructor when he flew the demonstration. When you play the training mission, the game just plays the mission as normal using the recorded inputs and relies on the aircraft responding in exactly the same way as it did when the training was recorded.

As most of the patches included adjustments to the way the aicraft fly, they automatically make track files recorded in the .trk format give different results to what occured in the version they were recorded in. As Steve mentioned, most versions you find for the original game now are pre-patched to at least version 1.03 so the training missions which were recorded for the version 1.0 flight model will not work.
