i got it this afternoon and well... it's deja vu for the first part of the tutorial... "Move Erec to the next flag" is exactly like AOE2 "move your militia to the next flag"...
anyway, i was always better at AOE2 than S4

Ways to win the game...pretty simple. lol

Mine tons and build a swarm of units since units are cheap you can hit popcap and still have 10,000 cash left.....(stupid I know)

Dont waste time on seige engines. There worthless. Now take your swarm army and spam the other castle=win.

You have more units so you win. thats how strategy is in S5. More units=win. Even though his base has tons of bombard towers and some units your spam army will kill his entire base without seige.

    LMAO

    Whens Stronghold2 comming again?

Big S3/4 fan, not happy, it's not the same game at all.

    1) Settlers limit based on village/town/city .. max 250 Settlers? Not good at all and that's not even 250 troops. I imagine with multiplayer maps people will have to site loads of village ruins so that the troop count is easy to rise, but it's not a nice system. Better was to build residencies to produce settlers.

    2) Cannot see Settlers carrying resources around ... buildings have no limits on production, therefore the skill in storing and producing carrying Settlers is gone. Yuo build a sawmill now and get serfs onto cutting wood/stones and the resources are available instantly. It's not nice.

    3) Look is totally AOE and unique "cute" feel of S3/4 is lost. Appreciate the new 3D work/engine but buildings and look and feel of Settlers is ruined.

    4) Colleges and scholars to research builing upgrades .. too C&C. The idea is ok but overused, better to hav just more building and a more involved economy system rather than this.

    5) Settlers now live and feed in farms. Where are the fishing huts, the bread makers feeding the mines .. that worked so well and required real skill to balance.

I could go on, this Settlers is not Settlers as we know and love, it's an AOE wannabe. If I tried to forget about S3/4 then it's an OK game, but it's not going to please the fan base.

I cannot decide if I want to buy this game. Probably not to be honest as my appeal for Settlers has been removed from this over-simplified version.

Sorry, S6 should return to the roots, I don;t think this game will sell well.

It may be a radical departure from it's 'cutesy' predecessors, but based on the demo at least, the finished product looks likely to be awesome!

Graphically it's the mutts nuts. The weather effects are simply stunning, and the gameplay is so much better than that of the previous games in the series. I particularly like the idea of adding quests to the game.

My only real criticism is the 'zoom to' on the hero or serf selection buttons. Will it be possible to turn this feature off in the game options? Here's what happens. You are exploring the map with a serf and you find a chest. You click to select a hero to send to open it. The camera zooms to the heroes location on the map, which could be some distance away from the chest. You then have the devils own job trying to find the exact location of the chest again on the minimap. A minor annoyance granted, but an annoyance nonetheless, and one that could so easily be avoided. Please tell me that this feature can be turned off in the game options!

Other than that, I love it!

if you want to find chests mate, play diablo2 or similar....
this is suposed to be a settlers game, wether you liked them or not, makes no difference, what it matters to us, the settlers fans, is that this HOK thing has nothing to do with the old chubby settlers that we all love
gone are woodcutters, sawmills and foresters
gone are grain farms, mills, whaterworks and bakeries and sloghter houses along with the rest....gone are chains of prodution, transport and distribution of goods
in our lovable game you choose what you want to build and where, withing your own land and your settlers all of them go and do what they have to do, so you get what you want..
in this new game you point to some one and gide him anywhere you want, there where it takes your fancy, you tell him to build whatever you want, as long that in you mother land are enough stuff you get your buildin, no one knows how the materials get there or if the serf has any knolage obot building, the thing is you get it..realy mate, dosent make any sense to me.
also BB and UBI claim that that way you win inb speed. it may be so, cat realy say at this point, but if you think about it in HOK you need at least a good 15 mins to order any capitan or whatever...in S4 and 3 if needed you cant start making soldiers in less than 2 minutes...so what speed are we talking abot?
and to be honest, graphicaly speaking, dosent discover anything new, either. yeah, graphics are stuning i agree, but so are the graphics of any new game coming our way this days....
