Thread: High end PCs running FC horribly | Forums

  1. #1
I've read through 10 pages of BBS posts, and all the topics that include anything about FC running slowly. So far I've found nothing to solve my problem.

I have a new, high-end Sony Vaio PC, but FC just runs soo horribly on it. I've updated drivers, patches, everything. Even with all that done I still experience "lag" every 30 seconds or so, like the game is loading something. Between those 30 seconds the game runs great; but it's unplayable like this. Anyone have anymore suggestions?

    Here's my specs: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....2&type=product

    And I've added 512 RAM.

I've played FC on my most of my buddies 1 and 2 year old PCs, and I love it, please help me.

from looking at the systems specs, it's pretty apparent to me that your problem is your video card. the FX 5200 is about as low-end as you can go in that line. i would highly suggest, if you're willing to spend the extra money, that you go out and buy as high-end a card as you can afford. the rest of your pc is bottlenecked by this card when it comes to gaming, and if you have any desire to play some of the newer games coming out, you're gonna need that new card.

I'll second that. Seems like such a shame to sell a beefy computer with a scrawny video card.

I'd suggest nothing less than a 6800 Plain, but it runs about $300. So you might consider a ATI 9800 Pro or 5900Ultra. Anything less is just a waste of money in my book.

An extra 512 MB of memory wouldn't be bad either

Yep, unfortunatly many mainstream computers such as Sony, Compaq/HP, etc etc reel people in by advertising a superfast processor, but they put in a VERY budget graphics card. Whenever buying a pre-manufactured PC, I always suggest that people look at the video card and memory before anything else. Reason for that is becuase just about any modern processor has enough power to run any game, however the same cannot be said about video cards.

    Also Crew_Chief,

If you cant really afford anything right now try familarizing your-self with the console commands.

I do this with every game I buy. And its surprizing the amount of problems that can be solved by understanding them.

You dont have to burn them in yer head (Like I did. , I WANT PATCH!!!!)

ROFL, but just look at the commands. Look them up online even, if need be.

Anyway a little more on topic.

Have you tryed to turn you lighting settings down?

Here is my set up, and i still get GREAT visuals.

    Texture Quality: Medium or High
    Texture Filter: Bilinear
    Anisotropic Filter: "1"<--(wo hoo hoooo)
    Particle: Low <---------(wo hoo hoooo)

    Speacail Effects: Custom/Medium
(Note: You can use Far Cry configuration to edit this. But i find that sometimes it dosent accuratly save your commands. So I do it ingame.)

    Enviorment Quality: Meduim to High

Shadow Quality: Low <---(wo hoo hoooo)

Water Quality: Custom / High / Ultra High
(Note: another one were i edited the command directly.)

Lighting Quality: Low <----(wo hoo hooo)

The settings that i have "wo hoo hooo" on are FPS MUNCHER settings... I and really mean MUNCHER too.

Yea, with the visuals jacked up, they do give great effects, but realistically, its not a WHOLE LOT of EYECANDY. I mean yea, it does rock, but its not nesscary if you ask me. But if you have the money to buy at Geforce 6800, be my guest. I'll even clap my hands LOL.

But as you can see from my settings, My system is pretty much average/above average.

However I still get an average of like 60fps with farcry.

And If I Could get the BLOODY OPENGL TO WORK CORRECTLY!!!!

    sighs

I could get 1.5 times the framerate.

Anyway, here are a few commands to mess with, if you decide to go the cheap route, until you get at Gefore 6800 GT ULTRA 256 Meg....

    ROFL

Most of these commands are bolean values, or yes and no. 1 or 0.

Also you have to bring down the console. Press the "(~)" key above the "TAB" key, anytime INGAME.
    ------------------------------------------------
\r_DisplayInfo 1 <----A must, if you want to know whats goin on with yer FPS
    ------------------------------------------------
    \r_glare
    \r_WaterReflection
    \r_WaterRefractions
    \r_vsync
    \r_VPfog
    \r_volumetricFog
    \r_motionblur
    \r_HeatHaze
    \r_beams

There are so many more, but these are the simplest FPS Savers.

To see a full list of commands Press Tab key twice. Or type in the begining a command.

    Here is some syntax:

Let say you want to find a command the starts with "\cl_"

Brind down the console and type this:

    \cl_ (Then press 'Tab')

The rest of the commands are useful though, just more advanced. You have to input exact values or ranges, which is a pain....but a good type of pain too...if you know what your doing.

Ohh and just to make your life harder LOL...Far Cry developers made the commands "CASE SENSITIVE" as well...

But just experiment. I would say go to CryTeck Customer service, but really, they are just as dumb about the commands. They only know stuff like why Far Cry wont work at particular Screen resolutions, and such. More common sense stuff...

I really dont trust them either...

But anyway dont listen to my rambling about UBI Soft's Customer service (even tho im doing there job...)

Always good to help a fellow gamer.

    Peace Out.

P.S: Dont mess with the Auto Detect Settings, there pure ****. They dont take into consideration the huge resource HOGGAGE of Shadow, and Lighting.

It said my system was Medium... and at got worse FPS that, with my currect set up.

With has half the stuff set to "high" or "Custom"

I cant believe cr@p is a cus word LOL...Kinda extreame.

I wonder if it will block out these words.

Nope, and "pooped" seems worse that "Cr@p" to me.. sighs...
