Thread: SDK or mod tools? | Forums

  1. #1
Is there going to be a mod tools or SDK released for this game? Im working on my third mod for another title from another vendor and all we have for that title is 1 good tool leaked from the vendor(Novalogic) and community made tools to mod the game.

Mods keep a tgame alive and even help the vendor sell the game when the title starts getting long in the tooth.
    My Specs:
    Win 7 ultimute 64 bit
    Core2Quad Q9650
    Asus P5N72-T Premium
    2 EVGA 9800GTX+ in SLI
    8 gig OCZ Platinum (PC2 6400)
    Supreme FX2 sound card
    Asus VW222U 22" LCD

Well the PC version comes with a nice advanced version of the map editor. Model importing might be a problem for time being, but expect user made tools if this game has the potential.

    Hi JET-WTF!

    Welcome to the forums!

Ubisoft is designing its products for the casual gamer. The hardcore audience isn't its cup of tea since at least three or four years.

Words like ''SDK'' and ''modding'' aren't expected to be part of the vocabulary of the target audience - audience that preferably plays on a console by the way.

Moreover, extended life span doesn't belong to the business model of Ubisoft. They don't want players to stick more than six or seven months on a game. They rather use the ''fast-food'' business model, that is, you buy it, you play it, you trash it, and you go back to the store to order another six-pack of McNuggets.

    Good modding... elsewhere...

Hi JJ long time no see! funny catching you here!

I dont think its true that most players are console players but a healthy mix of console and PC. as for keeping an old game alive it keeps players playing and awaiting the next title so they can get that too. if that title doesnt interest them, then the fanbase is still there for one that does rather than jump ship to another vendor. it makes perfect sense for a company to retain the customers in any way possible, and new content made by the customers gets them free advertising and a perfectly free poll to find out what the customers would enjoy having in the game. it is becoming a standard bussiness practice and quite successfull one for many game vendors.

The game I am currently modding did not come with development tools either and so the community made them themselves. the game developer is working on a new title and the old customers are now awaiting on it and are retained customers because of the modders.

If a Ubisoft employee or customer service rep can answer my question then i will be satisfied.

Perhaps here, in FC2, things will be different. (Niko Bellic)
I smell this game has potential to survive a long time. The FC2-campaign shouts for modding.

More or less the same way someone who has been gut shot shouts for a medic, or their mother.
