kill the birds first, before you try going to the door. time your stikes so that the birds fly into your blade

Tom, definitely take out the birds before you even think of trying to make it to the door. If you can get the timing down, you can take them out before they strike. It's fairly difficult to get the hang of it, but basically you wait to swing at them until they rear back just before they lunge at you. You can take them out in one swipe.

If that's too much trouble, make sure that you are standing in the middle of a ledge and just let them hit you (one at a time.) They will cause you to fall but the prince should grab onto the ledge. As soon as you fall, pull yourself back up onto the ledge and swing at the bird. If you're fast enough, you'll take them down. Repeat until they are all dead.

As far as making it to the door in time, you need to find the shortest way possible back to the ledge next to the wall that you have to run across. If you are having a lot of trouble making it in time, plot out the shortest route and practice it several times before you actually attempt it while the door is falling. Practice until you can get to the other side quickly and without error and you should make it.

Also, when you pull the lever that opens the door which releases the scarabs, you should notice that a gate also forms between two walls near the door. It is much faster to make your way across from the ladder to that gate and use it to help make your way across toward the door.
