For those who haven't gotten the hang of the avatar yet here's a little help.

Go to google.com and click on the image tab.

Type in what type of avatar you would like and hit search.

Now click the advanced settings and select "small size" and rerun the search. If you run Icon size, chances are the image will be too small and blur.

Find an image you like keeping in mind the size is going to be limited here to 64x64 pixels so don't get too big. Click on that image...or keep trying if it no longer exists, or is on a geocities, tripod or angelfire site. They won't share images.

On the top half of the screen, click view image alone and highlight and copy the URL.

Come back to the forum and click my space, then profile.

In the Avatar space provided, paste the address. It will autosize the image. Click the submit button.

Post, and with any luck you will now have an avatar that suits you...but you can always change it if you don't like it.

I feel rather tempted to note that one should be careful when doing this, as 1) images that we find to be very large and delaying page load times will be removed, 2) some images that appear in this search are copyrighted and are not allowed to be used by others (and I've been contacted about this by someone before, so they do know if you use their images), and 3) this eats a huge amount of bandwidth off of someone else's site, which 99% of the time they are paying for. Please keep that in mind when looking for an image to use as an avatar here. If possible find an image you like and see if someone will host it for you (again, NOT on Geocities, Angelfire, or Tripod free accounts, as those images will not work here).

Well I did say not to go too big. I've downloaded mine should it become a problem. I'm sure I can find someone to host it for me.

I did warn about the big 3 for not allowing image sharing.

And if we run into a copyright problem that you are notified about, then can't you just tell the individual there is a problem?

Dunno. I've asked Roac (or maybe it was Ron) to ask the UbiGuys if they could transfer the old icons to the new board, but I dunno if/when that will be happening.

Free image hosting and you're allowed to remote link your images. If that isn't spiffy in this day and age, I dunno what is.

Also, if anybody ever comes accross an image of an artwork by Schimmel that I could use as an avatar, please tell me

When I hit submit, it always sends me to a page saying that the page cannot be displayed, then I hit refresh and it takes me here, but with no avatar
