Some of the larger ships have DMs that must take into account where the torpedo hits. He sank the Aurora with as few as 2 torpedos, but as many as 4. A lot of ships will burn before sinking. Number of hits to get ships to burn will vary.

...With an IL2 loaded w/MBR-182 rockets it is possible to sink both the Russian container ship(tanker) and the freighter as well.If I am not mistaken the tanker on my desert map went down with two salvo's and I took out the freighter with the other four rockets.Plane used was a Il2-1941 model...

I've taken out the Rus dry cargo ship and liquid cargo ship with a Bf-110G w/Mk108 cannons and MG15/151 machine guns. It takes about two passes but they go down.

Kind of ridiculous, but a P-38 or P-47 can sink a cargo ship with one rocket too.

Other than that, the bomb:ship, torpedo:ship, rocket:ship ratios sound like something that keeps coming up...some kind of FAQ sticky thread material?
