Hi all...I'm currently running a 1.3 GHz P4, 512 RDRAM and a intel D850GB MOBO(also have a Radeon 9600XT that I purchased 2/04)...This was my 1st system that I purchased from Gateway in 2000....I'm planning on doing a major upgrade soon(have about $500 to spend)and have basically decided on a P4 3 Ghz CPU, 1 Ghz Crucial DDR400....can't decide on a MOBO though...looking to spend about $100 for the MOBO...gunna recycle my HD which is an Ultra ATA 100 drive...so don't care about SATA because I don't wanna buy a new HD..Do want an ATX board w/ 800 MHz FSB,integrated ethernet, AGP 8X,DDR400 support...and possibly integrated audio.....would appreciate some suggestions....PS..gunna upgrade to a X800 Vid card soon as well...Also, was thinking about going for an AMD 64 3000 CPU/MOBO set-up.. but since theres no 64 bit windows OS or software for it yet...did'nt really see the point of going that way...by the time a 64bit windows OS is released the AMD 64 will be alot cheaper than it is now....yes/no?

I would defiantly go for a 64 bit system, considering your mostly going to be playing games and decoding video right?.

MS is beating the 64 drum pretty hard as of late same with amd and intel, chech out the link below for more info copy and paste

    http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=15918

    What I would suggest

    AMD ATHLON 64 3200+ PROCESSOR 2000MHZ S754

    MSI KT8 NEO-FIS2R ATHLON64 K8T800 AGP 5PCI SATA RAID 1394 1000LAN SOUND

    KINGSTON HYPERX 1024MB DUAL CHANNEL KIT PC3200 2X512MB DDR 400MHZ 184PIN

the athlon 64s beats out intels p4 in most games and benchmarks plus its all round cheaper as well.

jimmy...your advice is appreciated but your suggestions are about $150 over my budget...I'm on a VERY tight budget....plus I'd like to get a DVD Rom and possibly a case...I was thinking about possibly going w/an AMD 64 3000+ instead of Intel...but I just don't see the point of going that route until theres a 64 bit OS and Apps to justify it...so I'm still planning on going w/an Intel 3.0 GHZ(Prescott) CPU....just need to find a MOBO to match it to?..Thanks tho..

The best Intel motherboard out there right now that I know of is the Asus P4C800-E Deluxe but its about $75 out of your price range. For $100 u would want to look at Intel, MSI, or ABIT brand motherboards but I doubt that you'll be able to find these motherboards at $100. Your probly gonna have to up your mobo budget to $125 or $150 because Intel mobo's are expensive.

You could try Shuttle. Most expensive one on newegg was $77.00. But if you want the DFI it's a good choice.
