    I'm guessing you're not asking about file size, Jworf. I would save before or after doing anything big -- before going into an age for the first time, after completing a big puzzle, before and/or after adding a page to a book. Name them all different things so you have a choice of where to pick up if you have to do something over.

    BTW, I was blocked from replying to your PT for some reason. But we'll all be able to help you with hints here

    Just in case jworf9 IS asking about file size, I have about 86 stored Myst III: Exile games, and each of them is 136 K Bytes. No larger or smaller, regardless of the history of the gameplay to that point.
    [I should mention this is for the Mac version.]
