Thread: Sidwinder Precision Pro Drivers for XP | Forums

  1. #1
I want to play Lomac with my Sidewinder Precision Pro but my PC isn't recognizing it with Windows XP. I connect it to the gameport then I choose controller from the control panel menu and do an auto detect for sidewinder joysticks but nothing. It adds a Sidewinder #D pro but it specifies it's not connected. I heard Microsoft isn't supporting these joysticks anymore and no drivers or software exist for XP. Is there anyone out there using a Sidewinder joystick that knows how I can get XP to recognize it?

Make sure your PC is off before pluging the stick in your game port.

I use a Sidewinder Precision Pro II USB and have the v4.0 software and drivers running. WinXP Pro SP1.
If you have a FTP I could make an ISO of the disc and upload it to you.

Sorry no FTP. I will try connecting my controller before turning on my PC. I doubt mine will work, its one of the first models with a gameport connection. I love this controller I bought it for Janes Longbow, used it only about a year. Is there anywhere where you can download it from? I would appreciate any help. Thanks WiREZ.

No luck with v4.0 utility (only for USB devices)

The last known drivers and utils for Precision Pro 1 are the 3.02 ones.

I've had the same controller before.

Anyway with winXP I didnt have to install any drivers.

    In the controler panel,
    Add ---> Sidewinder automatic mode

    And works great ...

You may have a conflict with IRQ gameport, or cable defection.
The prob is that your gameport isn't responding

Wait a minute, are you using a soundcard gameport, or a integrated gameport ?

Check under the Mobo bios if you see a gameport option to actived or something.

The first time I connected it to my soundcard game port. I have an audigy platinum. Then I tried adding a game cotroller by auto detecting it, it found a new harware but it specified it wasn't connected and it chose a Sidewinder 3d pro. I removed the controller and tried connecting it to the integrated gameport but the same thing happened I checked in my system hardware manager and both ports seem fine. Hope seem oblique for this controller.

I tryed my old SidewinderPP1 with game port and USB adapter and it also works fine with XP PRO SP1.
Remember to turn your comp off before plugging the stick into your game port. Disable your onboard sound in your bios.
If you had the USB adapter you could plug it in/out without turning off your PC.

First of all thank you so much for your help. I haven't fixed the problem yet but I will try to disable my onboard sound in my Bios as suggested. Do you know where I can buy that USB adapter? Thanks once again for your input.
