Does Randomos want a grass roots idea? Let's think back.

How many times have I heard someone post "When we got our PC it came with a free version of Myst. We played it & we were hooked!"

HELLO PEOPLE! (bangs basketball off their heads like the Great Santini)

How about Ubi or Cyan hooking up with either Dell or Gateway or HP or Apple or Whatever PC company and giving away free copies of Riven? And within the CD ROM packaging add printed material relating to Uru, TPOTS, Revelation, .....and for a change in strategy, stay the heck away from Prima Strategy Guide, & instead point to ALL of these internet boards out here, where the Community is. Prima is NOT the community. WE are.

    Thank you.

Hi Mo! It's so strange to hear from you without seeing a fountain.

I've never heard of getting Myst free with a computer. Outstanding idea, though!

I first got interested in Myst when I got a free demo of it with my new computer (many years ago). What if now free demos of Uru were given out with new computers...with lots of advertising included for tPotS.

    [EDIT]:
Or even better. What if WE gave out free copies of the Uru demo outside of a computer store like EBGames or even a non-tech place like Office Depot or Wal-Mart. That should get people interested!

    Hi,
Yes, Myst came with some computers, years ago. It was an opportunity for computer companies to show off their hardware, particularly CD-ROM drives. Myst is a great game, and computer companies wanted to give people a reason to buy a CD-ROM drive. Convergence is a wonderful thing - accidentally being at the right place at the right time.

I don't see games being bundled with computer sales much anymore, maybe a high-end gaming machine. I do see games occasionally bundled with graphics cards. I think that would be a great idea, bundle a game with a graphics card. I have a vague memory, either here or on the Myst IV forum, that they were thinking about something like that. Of course I could be mistaken.

If a game is bundled with something - think it should be the new games - Uru or Myst IV.

Current graphics card games bundle (with GeForce 5950 FX) - Rainbow Six 3 (Raven Shield), Tomb Raider (The angel of darkness) and Arx Fatalis. C*ap. I won't be playing any of them.

LOL - I got the new Tomb Raider game with my PowerColor ATI Radeon 9600PRO. I installed it, played it for about five minutes, and then uninstalled it, laid down on my bed and cried. That game was a huge disappointment. Good thing I didn't buy it by itself. </off_topic>

Sorry 'bout that. I think they should bundle URU with video cards. After all, it is quite an impressive test for a video card. Such stunning graphics...
