Thread: .dds stuff, trying to change krieger logo on helicopter but | Forums

    I use PSP and installed the dds plugin.
    I open the logo.dds and fill it all black and then add tekst like USAF and export it as a new dds file in my /level diretory of my map.
    then I rip the material from a helicopter to create a template for my new skinn so i just have to change the logo part under that new material.

    So far so good, but when I apply my new skin I only see parts of the USAF text and see in blak the krieger logo (orriginal was white)

    I found a workaround my replacing the logo with the helicopter tile texture with USAF text but then the problem is that one side has the text mirrored and it doesn't look as good as the orriginal decal look. (and based on the number logo the decals don't get mirrored so the text would be readable from both sides.

    So now I come to the point of my question, how can I get rid of that black krieger background, or any tutorials how to make my own .dds images and decals?
    (I seem only to be able to edit dds files with PSP, when I make my own image and try to save as dds, the save button is greyed out on the .dds options window or how is it called?)

    My 2d editing skills are pretty basic and I don't know mutch of the tech terms

    I managed to do some reskinning on the helicopter and zodaic hulls already and have to check how my enemymodelmaterials turn out but I want the krieger logo on the helicopter replaced too

    Sounds like you forgot to change the alpha channel for it so thats were I would look, if you dont know were to find the alpha click on the channels tab and its under the rgb ones.

    I didn't find a channels tab but I fond some alpha load and save commands under selection and mask tabs in PSP7, I managed to make my own .dds images from scratch now, but any hints how I can make images where the black part doesn't apear like the krieger logo and serial numbers on the gunship helicopter?

    Hmm I'm probebly doing something wrong because I get a popup saying:
    Because of the limitations of the specified format, the saved file will be limited to a merged image. Also as a result of these limitations, no alpha channels will be saved
    when saving to dds format

    teh typ of dds you are saving to needs to support alpha channels, have a search on the net, not sure which ones support it or not

    Ok it looks like PSP can't save to .dds with aplha layer so can't make .dds decals with PSP, I made the image, saved as photoshop image, and loaded in in photoshop to save as dds and I got my decal.

    Just one last problem, one stide still display's the image in mirror, can i do anything about this? when replacing the numbers decal my new image is readable form both sides, but the krieger logo isn"t, can I do anything about this or is the model texture set that way (the krieger logo didn't need to be mirrored so I guess I can't?

    What it might be is a seperate decal that the model calls for it self, so if you open up the cgf file with notepad and scroll down you should see what texture it use's and what folders they are in.Back it up before doing this as it can cause problems.

    *edit* Just had a look and the numbers are in a seperate .dds file so edit them
