Thread: Lock On + PC3700 = Hrmmm?????? | Forums

  1. #1
    Hi...

Just mounted my new Kingston PC3700 (466MHz) mem.-sticks (2X512mb)on my ASUS P4P800 and ran into graph. trouble right away. When i run the mem. in 2X233 MHz speed with 1:1 sync. FSB- bus (P4 2.8 GHz 4x200FSB) i get graph-artifacts in Lock-On.

Same thing happens in FS2004 (severe artifacting!!!), and the only way to get rid of it is to lower the mem. speed to â´bout 2X205 MHz. Other games and graph benchies handles the mem. speed alright (no artifacts).

I havenâ´t OC my graphcard and been testing several settings and BIOS versions etc. My CPU cooling is alright.

    Have anyone else noticed this????

Could this be a program related phenomena or is it my rig???

Iâ´ve also tested other mem. and the same thing happens when u get over 2X205 MHz mem. speed.
With 5:4 async. FSB I donâ´t get this probs., the CPU runs OK up to 3.2GHz (RAM speed ca. 370Mhz data rate).

Oki, maybe a hardware question, but why is it so that I can run games like BF-Vietnam and benchies like 3dMark whith 466 Mhz mem. datarate speed????

different games act differently to speeds.

When I had my GF4 and o/c it everything ran fine until I got MP2. I would get 2-5s pauses in it. Only by dropping my o/c by 5mhz did this go away.

did you do the asus bios update on the board for the kingston ram? the board has problems with it but asus has a fix out. I had the same issue and this resolved it.

Hmmm, canâ´t find the fix u writing â´bout. Iâ´ve upgraded my BIOS to the latest version, but it didnâ´t help....

I could be entirely wrong on this, but here goes anyway...

If you're running 233MHz FSB don't you have to change the CPU:AGP:PCI ratio? Otherwise you're also overclocking your graphics card, which I guess would be a reasonable explanation for the artifacts.

EDIT: Just checked my BIOS, and I've got the AGP/PCI bus speed set to 'Fixed - 66/33'. This is on an Abit IS7, but there must be something similar on your Asus.

My AGP/PCI bus speed is set to 66/33, so thats not the problem. Iâ´m getting more convinced, after checking some tech. webforums, thatâ´s the mobo and the chipset (Intel 865PE) having some trouble handling RAM faster than 400Mhz datarate.

And by the way, ASUS isnâ´t recommendning RAM faster than PC3200 at there website.

    I'm testing a Abit IS7 right now (865 chipset) I have corsiar xms at 244 FSB 1-1 w 3.2 @ 3.9Ghz and no artifacts.

Also just for haha's sometimes when you raise your FSB and CPU speed your max OC on your GPU needs to be adjusted lower or more voltage added to GPU. You may also be experiencing a heat issue.

Take side cover off the case and blow a house fan directly at system and see if you continue to get artifacts.
