I need to learn the behinds the scenes stuff. I understand there are 4 books available:

    Myst: The Book of D'ni
    Myst: The Book of Ti'ana
    Myst: The Book of Atrus
    Acqua Alta

    Are there any other books?
    Which have you read?
    Are they worth the money?
What order should I read them in?

There are debates about this, but I read them in the order published, not the internal chronological order, and enjoyed them that way. That's Book of Atrus, Book of Ti'ana, and Book of D'ni. The chronological way is Book of Ti'ana, Book of Atrus, and Book of D'ni. The consensus is that the first two are good, the Book of D'ni only fair. Judge for yourself. I have never heard of Aqua Alta. It may be for something else.

There is one other book, but it is more a "making of" than backstory. It's called "From Myst to Riven" by Richard Kadrey, and has some great background stuff.

Acqua Alta came up under an Amazon.com search under the word MYST for some reason and appears not to be related after all.

I will read the Book of Ti'ana first and if I like that, I will read the rest. Are they good enough that someone could make a movie based on them?

Let me put it this was. I read the books and tore through them unable to put them down. I then lent them to 17 kids ranging in age from 13 to 17 and they tore through them unable to put them down.

By the way, the order of the books is:

    Atrus
    D'ni
    Ti'ana

    Enjoy!

I want to read them in cronological order according to the story, NOT when they are published. It seems there is some disagreement. Amazon had D'ni and Ti'ana but Atrus was not in stock. Which should I read first if I want to read the beginning of the story? Thanks for your help and advice!

I did find a used copy of Atrus. Does anyone know of a message board that specifically discusses these books?

What are the books about? Retelling the game stories?

The books don't retell the gamestories. The games start with Atrus being an adult. The book tell you how Atrus has come to the point he is in the games and the fall of D'ni. I just reread Book of Atrus and Book of Ti'ana. It's true that the book of D'ni is nice but doesn't have the same sense of D'ni and the same feeling as the first two books.

I advice to read the Book of Atrus first. Some things seem to better fall in place. I think the book of Atrus is less interesting if you already know the story of Ti'ana.

Are the books written by someone I should or could know? And if I haven't played the games except for Uru, is it worth to read the books?
