Thread: Belly Landings and Throttle Question | Forums

what speed and pitch? how exactly do i land the aircarft. ive had some ultra-smooth descents onto the runway, but ended up blowing up.

plus i have another question, about engines. is there a difference between throttle and power? i just know of one thing... it makes fire come out the back, and propell the plane forward. is there anything more to know about this stuff?
plus, what is 100% thrust? is it with the afterbruners on, or before they come on?

Afterburners come on after 100%(when the tachometer is pointed streight up) and if there is no difference betwean throttle and power you need to a)start your engines, or b)change your throttle config.

Also don't use afterburners unless a)you have lots of fuel in external tanks, or b)you really need to use afterburners.

Try a lower angle of attack(start your aproach at lower altitude)when landing and don't try and land when going faster than 300km/hr or 200kt's use flaps.

should i tilt the plane a bit so that the very back (AB's) touch the ground first? or should i do it level?

The back wheels should touch down first, go easy on it. Don't scrape the exhust nozzles, you will know it you do cause you will see sparks.

He's talking about belly landing Cali, so he's gonna see sparks no matter what

My advice, go in full flaps, try to touch down as slow as possible and as flush as possible, don't flare too too much but you don't wanna be going mach1 when you touch the ground either

Make sure you jettison your stores first too.

Belly landings - quite familiar with these

I prefer to do them quite fast - trying to maneuvre a slow jet onto the runway with flaps down can be pretty difficult.

You can belly land at quite high speeds . . . up to about 450km/h, maybe a bit more.

The two crucial things here is that you keep the aircraft level, and that you have a very low sink rate . . . less than 1 metre per second.

Throttles - 100% thrust is full throttle, without afterburner.
Your description of afterburner is essentially correct . . . but the fire coming out of the back is lots of fuel being burnt up. Something like ten times normal fuel flow rate . . . it gives you a lot of extra thrust, but you can run out of fuel very quickly indeed.

Burner in the MiGs will empty your tanks like you won't believe . . . . the F15 has much bigger tanks, and the Su27 has huge tanks, but isn't maneuvrable until you get below about 70% fuel.
