Just a note to let you know that planes with very visible paint jobs were not used in combat. The USAAF in Britian would paint non-combat worthy aircraft in very bizarre colors to act as leaders for forming up squadrons immediately after takeoff. Once the squadron was formed up these old planes would land and the squadron would head to the target. These planes were very useful when several squadrons were forming up in the same location. Everyone would know what their lead aircraft looked like and would form up on it. This allowed the planes to maintain radio silence and still keep each squadron together.

Zeus-cat that is only %95 correct - I know that during the Battle of the Bulge, During the December 1944 mission that General Castle was lost on, the 8th Air Force sent the largest bombing raid of the war to attack German Command Centers and Airports to try and take some of the pressure off the troops. They sent over 2000 bombers and included all the "war weary's" and included the Assembly ships too. [ http://www.home.zonnet.nl/ronputz/b17.pdf page 2]

Assembly ships. I knew they had a name, just couldn't remember it.

So we are saying he can use an outlandish skin if has 1,999 other bombers in his mission. LOL.

    i gave you a 95% correct.... i should have given you a 99% correct...
even though there were 2000 bombers in that mission, when combat readiness was in question, the powers that be would send any flyable bomber to fill out the box, and even in large formations, they still flew in boxes [groups] of 24[?] so if you REALLY wanted to include an assembly ship it would not be out of the question.
i wouldn't include more than one, but i doubt that the Germans said "ooh pretty, look lets get the pretty one... so i don't think the garish colors made them any more of any less of a target.
i've always been fascinated by the assembly ships just because they are SO different [i remember one b-24 that was pink with purple polka-dots], it' be fun seeing one or two, but then the skinner needs to do their homework to get it historically correct.
