Thread: Is there something wrong with my computer? | Forums

and as i said b4 dont forget to cut all you video card options off or to performnce and what ever screen res you run it in be sure to list it in your results. also you may want to post all the individual scores and not just the final becouse if there is something your pc is not doing right that would help nerrow it down. judgeing by what you got after you cut down your screen res id say your pc is working just fine though

Dell sold some 9800SE versions a while back if I remember. If you look on the adapter tab for your Catalyst drivers (under advanced), it may tell you what kind of 9800 it is.

The SE was a "budget" version of the 9800.
Anyways, we can tell a little more when you post your 3Dmark scores. Make sure you run them in the default resolution, and as Fordfan stated make sure you have AA/AF in 3D settings to "application Preference" and your sliders set to high performance. Vsync off.

Hmmm, I sure hope I don't have that budget version. Well, I do plan to upgrade my video card sometime in the future, so I guess that wont matter then. I ran the 3D Mark 03 tests and I got a final score of 5029. Does that seem about right? It wouldnt let me change any settings, so it was run at the default settings. These were the settings I had...

    Resolution - 1024x768
    Pixel Processing - None
    Texture Filtering - Optimal
    Max Anistrophy - 4
    Vertex Shaders - Optimal
    Repeat Tests - Off
    Fixed Framerate - Off

And as I said, I got a final score of 5029. I don't really know what a "good" score is, so any comments are appreciated. Could you guys tell me what your specs are, and what scores you have gotten? Again, thx alot!

Ok, that's about what I get with a 9700Pro P4 2.4 and a gig of ram. I think you are OK. A pro version of the 9800 would probably get you a little higher score, but I don't think there is anything wrong with your rig.

Regardless of what some people are posting: nobody is running @ 1600X1200 with max settings and getting decent frame rates, UNLESS they have one of the next-gen cards.

that looks about right to me. but i dont know for sure. as far as changeing your settings if you talking about a.a and a.s texture qulity that has to be done in your video control panal.and i wouldnt worry about weather or not your card is the top of the line becouse even if its the se by the time its out of date and lagging the pros wont be to far off.and if you want to compair your score the company who makes 3dmark has there own sight and a forum you can read through to get a feel for what yours is doing.you wont be able to post unless you buy the full version of 3dmark and register it.check out the tweak thread here you may gain a little more power if you ajust a few thing acordingly.haveing a dell i wouldnt recomend overclocking your card becouse if it tares up thay may not fix it besides i dout youd see any diff.

try toning the resolution down a notch like the others said and it will boost your fps greatly.

personally i use a combination of 1024x768 with 4x FSAA and that gives me what i feel is a good image quality with good fps.

I can run higher at 1280x1024 but it starts to lag in some areas so i keep it toned to 1024x768.

All settings for me are set to maximum.
    Pentium 4 3.06GHz With HT
    1 GB PC 2100 Crucial
Gigabyte 8INXP Mobo (with duel DDR)
    Audigy 2 zx soundcard
    Geforce FX 5950 256MB

Well, I have decided to lower the resolution (But use medium anti-aliasing). This has really improved my framerates. So, once again, thx alot to all of you for helping me.
