I just received IL Sturmovik 2 days ago. It seemed like a great game at first, but I had a lot of problems with flight (controls are too sensitive and the ground and planes seemed to move too fast, to a point where the game wasnâ´t enjoyeable. aka... a plane was suddenly at a given possition and then it suddenly dissapeared and reapeared 50 meters away one half of a second later) so you can imagine... shooting down a plane was next to impossible. So I downloaded a patch, and now the game wonâ´t run at all, and I canâ´t reinstall or uninstall it. It just became a huge block of information that I canâ´t use or get rid of (the entire game!) please tell me what I can do to fix both the game and to apply the proper patch. Thank you for any help you can offer!

    Hi

Please go to the sticky threads at the top of this page and read how to submit your DxDiagnostic results here.

Do that and also include details of which program you are running, i.e Sturmovik, or Forgotten Battles, and what upgrades you have attempted to add & so on.

There can be numerous reasons why you are not
getting the right results, but we need to know as much as you can give us. Dxdiag is a good start.

Cheers, welcome to the House of Fun!

Alright, let's see if we can help. First, we need to know if this is the original IL-2 or is it IL-2 Forgotten Battles or is it IL-2 FB ACE?

    Hello agn

I'm NOT an expert at this, but I can see straight away that you need to upgrade to the latest version of DirectX, that is, 9.0b. You can try seeing what that does, and then maybe lower your Sound hardware acceleration by a notch or two, checking to see whether your game is getting smoother. We mostly use Fraps - www.fraps.com - to count framerate, and the Black Death track is used as a benchmark.

You need to ensure that your mobo drivers and, perhaps, BIOS version are all up to date. That goes for sound and video drivers as well, but I see that both of these functions are onboard so the mobo drivers should cover that.

Luckyboy's internet security tips are worth applying, even if you're not flying online, as these little boogers tend to slow down the works whether you are connected or not.

Hopefully someone will pull more out of your dxdiag, but go ahead and do the DX9.0b thing - you should see a distinct improvement.

SteveV's advice is always dependable, definitely follow that link!

    Good luck,

    brandoDude? Will you marry me?

Ok, seriously (or as serious as I get which isn't very serious) let's see, he's right, upgrade to Direct X 9.0b and you can get it here...

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx

While you're at that site, I'd click on the "Protect Your PC" thing in the upper, right hand corner of the screen because I stink you don't have the latest security updates installed (unless of course you want my IT friend who works for a spammer to use you lil 'puter for a porn server!

Lower hardware acceleration a tick at a time and test. If sound is still good, lower it another tick until you pork the sound. If you pork the sound, just set it up a tick. You can do this while at the sound tab while running a diagnosis.

Use both the following links to shut down the stuff Cousin Billy has running by default that you don't need, want and can possibly cause security concerns. Remember to do only the steps you feel comfortable doing and under the services thing, shut down only a couple of things at a time in case you get a result you don't like. then it is easy enough to set it back to normal again by simply enabling and starting the service in question. Here's the links...

    http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/supertweaks.htm

    http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm

Is this like, a laptop? Using a laptop to play flight simulation games is a bit like bringing a knife to a gun fight! However, if you do the above steps and also click on my link and actually like, follow the advice instead of going, "yeah, yeah, yeah, later" I stink you can get at least a passible game going here. I'd skip the fraps program. You can see your frames per second by going up to the chat bar while playing the game online and enter...

    >fps START SHOW

    you stop it by entering...

    >fps STOP SHOW

Remember, it is case sensitive! Do it this way because not only is it the standard benchmark we use, you also don't have the system resources available to waste on anything not needed, no matter how small the drain.

Click my link to find ways to roto-root out those bots that yes, not only **** up your ping rate while online, they also rob system resources, so even if you never play online, you'll benefit from it.

Also, you need a driver update for that onboard graphics. However, use both ATI uninstalling tools to rid you of the old drivers first.

Ok, I tried installing DirectX 9 but it said that it didnâ´t pass the windows XP testing, so I wasnâ´t able to upload it. Is there a way to bipass that? Iâ´m trying to take your instructions one step at a time. Iâ´m not a computer expert and most of the things you all posted seems like chinese to me!
But, Iâ´ll give it all a shot and take it easy. Anyway, thanks a lot.
