Just wondering what might perform better on an older AMD XP2000 based system with 512mb DDR 266.

Radeon 8500 128mb (non LE version)
Geforce4 4200 128mb

The goal is to be able to play somewhat smoothly at 1024x768 with details on medium.

Between those two, the GeFroce4 would be a better choice. The 8500 performance is about equal to a GF3 series card, maybe very slightly faster. But the GF4 Ti series easily beats it.
