How can I install the game to play against others in my home network?
Does CM9000 have to be installed on all the machines?
Thanks in advance

If you open chessmaster 9000 and go to "CM LiVe" you can choose wheather to play on ubi.com or by TCP/IP or in your case LAN. If you play by ubi.com or TCP/IP both players will need a copy of the game to play. Though if you do it over LAN (I suppose that's what you want to) I think it's possible to start the game on one pc then take the CD to the other pc and start the game there too.
Just note that the Chessmaster 9000 needs to be inserted once every 14 days or 20th program start up or something like that. So make sure you always have the copy near you.
I'm not totally sure about all this, but I think it works (have never tried LAN myself).

I've got a problem with this aswell. I was going through the tutorials with my little sister and she's got the hang of the basics. Obviously once you learn that you don't want to carry on doing tutorials forever you want a proper game. So I went to play over the LAN, typed in a name in the lan section, clicked host, nothing happens. Went to other computer to check if it had shown up in the current games, but nothing nada snip.
I've disabled all firewalls so that's not the problem, can't think what else to try, any suggestions?
Just to update, I found answer to my problem searching google groups. This forum doesn't seem to be the busiest place to get help, but the official forum is where most people will go to to find answers to their problems. So if anyone else is suffering from same problem as me, this is how I solved it.
Chessmaster 9000 does not use TCP/IP like pretty much all other software I've ever used, instead it prefers the older networking protocol IPX. Don't know why but it does, so installing this protocol on to both of the computers and the "LAN" section in CM Live will now work.
For those of you who do not know how to install this protocol here is how to do it on windows XP Pro. I expect it will be exactly the same on Home Edition aswell.
Start > Settings > Network Connections
right click on your LAN > Properties > Install > Protocol > IPX
click ok and your done.
Hope this helps

Guess it isn't the most active forum around, so it's nice there's other places as well to talk and ask questions
And after all Chessmaster 9000 is getting quite old, so how much can there be left to discuss and ask about? In the google forums they discuss everything from Fritz to winboard and Hoyle Majestic Chess. In here it should mostly concern Chessmaster and I for one don't have very much interest in that anymore.
I don't think people will go here to find answers concerning chessmaster, since the forum is something ubisoft added not too long time ago. When Chessmaster 9000 was released there wasn't a forum, so I/people used other places to discuss and will most likely stick to them.
