Why have not Italians Battleships, Battlecruisers and cruisers in the game???

Is a good idea. The war in the Mediterranean is always the forgotten war. And it is a pity because is an scenario full of possibilities.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but what is the point, the Italian fleet never left the harbour.![]()
Matapan Cape battle you don't remember ?
Better not for italian...
28-29 march 1941
Italian ships :
BB: Vittorio Veneto
CA: pola, fiume, trieste, trento,Zara CL :garibaldi, abruzzi, Bolzano
DD : 4
UK ships:
BB: Warspite, Barham, Valiant
CV: Formidable
CA&CL : Ajax, Orion, gloucester, perth
DD: 13
Result :
Air attack : on Vittorio from Fromidable 1 torpedo hit, Vittorio back to Tarente.
Air attack on Pola from formidable, one hit forcing him to stop.
Night fight at very short distance 4km between UK battleships and italian cruisers pola, fiume and zara. last two were assisting the pola. The three CA were sunk
All other italian ship retreated to brindisi and Tarente.
A great victory for only 2 min of night action. Primary target (bb vittorio) escaped but the major point was that after the matapan cape incident no more italian ship went to sea for fight
The goal of the historic simulation is to rewrite the history. The Italian navy was ineffective, but it was a powerfull navy. It could have great battles in the Mediterranean.

Being one of the few, maybe the only, italian here, I can't disagree with a simulation where italian fleet is involved; in this case, I'll be pleased to see a "what if" surface warfare simulator, not the show of poor results of our surface fleet.
Anyway, I believe that any sort of battles involving capital ships (german and british included) is a bit off topic in a simulation focused on german submarines; they sunk some battleship, cruiser or carrier, but the main duty was another, as you know.
Speaking of a subsim, the only italian ships I really want to see are submarines; mainly our Betasom flotilla (about 30 boats deployed in atlantic, after passed Gibraltar) with a decent total score near 600.000 tons in 3 years.
Less actractive italian sub in Mediterranean, except as carriers of "Maiali" (nickname for slow torpedoes, used as underwater s******s for sabotages in enemy harbours).
Betasom is really easy to do, I suppose; same enemy and same battlefield, just some italian unit to add to u-boats.
:-)
all nice toughts.. I would love to sea :-) it.
However it's not a navy game but a sub sim.
Let's hope Silent Hunter III w/h good tools for mod addons. Then the sky w/b the limit.
Ever wondered what if the German forces combined with Vichy- Italian- and Japanese Navy would/could do together? Of course someone should have the time to make it..
Another title;
Midway from Mithis maybe bring us Global Naval Battles '40-'45.
(Hmmm nice title..) But I dont think so. Reminds me of Greatest Naval Battles series..

Easy?? Man you've to get past the hell
I wonder how they did that with all the streaming in gibraltar. I remember I couldn't get out of the med in Aces because the streaming pushed me right back into the med. I really hope SH3 will represent this, too. SH2 lacked it completely. Of course, there are possibilities close to the coastline or at a certain depth to slip through; I don't know it exactly.
AFAIK, Betasom submarines didnt have to pass Gibraltar every time. They probably shared French atlantic bases with Germans.
Bertgang, you are not the only eyetie around here![]()
