Why the heck can't I pick up the flashlight??

What level are you on? It first appears on the carrier. Maybe you already have it. Also, try different approaches to the desk or hop up on the desk or crate. Try the flashlight key to see if it turns on. I can't think of any reason why you cannot pick it up.
